Photographer’s Note
Skadar Lake - Skadarsko jezero (in Serbian)- is the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula and situated on the border of Montenegro with Albania. It was named after the city of Shkodra in northern Albania (Shkodër in Albanian, Scutari in Italian and Скадар/Skadar in Serbian) and the name comes from the Greek "Skoutari". The Montenegrin part of the lake and its surroundings forms a national park. It is one of the largest bird reserves in Europe with about 270 bird species, among which are some of the last pelicans in Europe, seagulls and herons. There are plenty of fish, especially carp, bleak and eel.
We asked a man living in the near village to take us for a short (2 hours) trip by his small boat and we could watch different kinds of birds. The lake is decorated with beautiful lilies. The views from the boat are wonderful. Really recommend to spend there some time. I did not have much time to stop there for longer but I definately come back there once, especially when I'll be going to Albania.
