Sveti Stefan Photo

Photographer’s Note

Sveti Stefan is one of the most unique locations on the Adriatic Coast. The small island was once a fisherman willage, which preserved its traditional look, with narrow streets, old stone houses and small churches.

We had a stop here during our camping tour in 1983 which goes from Germany to Yugoslavia, and to the Peloponnes of Greece.

from www.sveti-stefan.net: "In ancient documents Sveti Stefan is mentioned by the name of “place of justice” - the pivotal place of Pastrovics township and tribe. This name originated from the fact that the court Benkada had been sessioning in it for 400 years. It was usually done at Pjaca, a space in front of the entering gate. Tribal disputes and misunderstandings were solved at that spot until 1929. Fortress Sveti Stefan achieved a grand rise in the first half of XIX century when it counted 100 houses, three churches, and 400 inhabitants on its small space limited by the sea and the walls. There was no space for more."

Hallo Achim,
der linke Teil des Himmels ist überbelichtet, aber abgesehen davon ein 1a Bild! Dein point of view ist super gewählt und die roten Hausdächer geben ein super Kontrastobjekt ab. Schärfe ist sehr gut und Farben schön natürlich gehalten ohne ausgewaschen zu wirken, sehr schön!

Well composed image from an excellent POV so we can see how the houses are linked across the bridge. The negative has survived quite well over 25 years, but it looks a bit as if you have used a lot of noise reduction.

I really appreciate a superb view like this one with its cluster of fine houses on a small island linked by a walkway (looks like rockfilled) and the way of your composition makes it more interesting. A fine post.

Hallo Achim. Photo und Text ergänzen sich vorbildlich. Man sieht diesem kleinen Ort sein Alter, - und auch seine Bedeutung an. Die Mauern zeigen, dass man sich auch gegen Feinde verteidigen konnte. Das Photo hat dokumentarischen Charakter. Als Scan von einem Negativ ist es hervorragend. Viele Grüße, Wolfgang.

Bonjour Achim,
la brume fait disparaitre l'horizon et limite la profondeur à ce village perché à même la côte. On y appréciera les couleurs des toitures et cette digue un peu spéciale.
Un très bon scan d'une ancienne photo bien conservée.

Hey Achim,

An excellent composition and point of view of Sveti Štefan. A bit similar to Budva, but smaller I think. Some nice colors, and the place itself creates quite an ambient.
Another fine oldie. Shot a month and a day after I was born. Actually, shot in the same country I was born in - before 1991 that is. :)

Hello Achim,

The brick buildings with the red roofs make a typical village by the seaside!
This is a well framed view, and the composition has a fine feeling of depth...
Good balance and the backlight adds an attractive effect, good colours for 25 years of storage even if the sky is suffering a tad!

The place seems to be packed with red tiled roof houses right upto the sea. Fine POV with the inclusion of the footbridge on the right. 25 years on, the quality is till good, but seems you used NI a bit here. But this, surely is a lovely & unique place & thanks for your notes as well.
