Photographer’s Note

Eating of the Fly-Agaric Mushroom

The most common way that this mushroom was eaten was when it had been dried. The Druid or Druids fasted for at least 3 days, drinking only water although sometimes small amounts of purifying herbs may also be taken and meditating before consumption of the fungi. This was done for a number of reasons, not only to purify the mind but also it purified the body because the body acts in a strange way to this fungi. When consumed the body removes the Mind-Expanding substances before the poison. So the Psychedelic is in the body before it starts to react to the poison. This reaction is violent stomach emptying as the body rejects what's left of the mushroom before it absorbs any more of the poison. The Druids were well prepared for this sickness as it was part of taking the fungi. After the poison is rejected the Psychedelic starts to act, this is when the second reason for body purity was needed as the first urine expelled after consumption is nearly all Psychedelic and this was either consumed at the time to give full effect of the fungi or stored for a later ritual. It may also have been used in some of their Beverages or Potions. This may sound a bit sick to some but with the 3 day fast and only water going in, only water was coming out.

Well this was a shot of yesterday. By the shot here my camera was laying on the ground. I hope you like the shot.

Une très prise en contre-plongée de ces champignons. Méfies-tu, avec leurs chapteaux rouges et les points blancs je pense qu'ils sont venimeux.

Wow, Jaap,
What a special shot of fly agaric. Not only that you found a whole group, but you found them in the open, that is very unusual!
The very low POV setting their red caps against the heavy grey sky works extremely well. The colours are excellent and the DOF just right!

Fantastic photo. The amanita muscaria mushroom are very famous, from it was purified the muscarine a power substance that act on nervous system, and in high doses cause alucination and death.
The "Smurfs" charactes from the TV cartoon live in that things. :)
What is the size of these mushroon I never see one.

Deze foto is echt bom !:) Prachtige opname van deze groep paddestoelen vanuit een prima standpunt gemaakt. De kleuren zijn hier helder en intens en contrasteren mooi met de dreigende donkere lucht erboven. Het zonlicht werpt een mooie glans op de paddestoelen waardoor de kleuren prachtig uitkomen. Dat heb je goed gezien en heel mooi vastgelegd.
Echt een heel fraai herfstplaatje.

Great story about these fungi and the druids...

Excellent photo to match it, with the lowest angle you could achieve, unless beginning to dig... :-P) There's so many textures throughout the image, with fallen rust leaves spread around the grass and the covered sky.

Nice light you've caught on these colourful mushrooms.

Your photo reminds me of a cover from Tintin and The Shooting Star - l'Étoile Mystérieuse.

Hello Jaap,
I see you have already used the title Fairy tale for an earlier mushroom-shot, and that was quite appropriate. This reminds me of a Swedish fairy tale-book from the early 20th century that I read as a kid, about the little people of the forest, taking their ants for a walk and seeking shelter from the rain under a bright red fly-agaric mushroom, and so on.
Great colours and light, and the dark sky enhances the effect of the composition.

You have a few photos so good and nice that not wise not which to comment on yourself. This one that I choose seems to me to be genial, the mushrooms in this first-ever plane emphasizing his precious color, the dry leaves for the soil and this threatening sky with a nice grey create a set of great beauty, seen and better executed good.

Taking advantage of the site working well enough, I can discover this photo which remembers me one of your previous shot of mushroom in the forest.
I like the composition on the ground giving a dynamic picture. The autumn colors are well put in evidence with the heavy grey clouds.
Only one question: where are the smurfs?

I like the point of view you chose. You respected the rule of the thirds perfectly. The grey sky makes a very good background for those red mushrooms. Great combination of colours by having orange leaves and green grass around the vivid red mushrooms. Well done!

Hello Jaap,
you have many points for this and rightly so. Your pov is of that of a pixire or fairy and I can imagine them dancimng around these bright toadstools when we are not looking.Their bright red looks well agianst the overcast and brooding sky.In the foreground we also have the added bonus of the fallen autumn leaves. This is a special seasonal picture.

Je découvre encore une fois tardivement ces magnifiques amanites tue-mouches. Le POV à ras du sol les met en valeur, au lieu des feuilles d'automne. Le ciel est grave, il est là pour nous menacer du danger d'avaler ces champignons.
Superbes couleurs d'ensemble.

we ever see these kind of mushrrons in drawings or artcraft. nice lower pov, the dark sky added lots of interest and crerated a beautiful and funny image:umbrellas waiting the rain.

Hallo, Jaap. Dit is het bewijs dat je soms laag bij de grond moet kijken om fantastische foto's te maken. Hier zou ik niet verbaasd zijn als ik Smurfen te voorschijn zag komen ;o). Het rood van de paddestoelen komt zeer goed uit op de grijze lucht en ook op het gras en de blaren van de voorgrond. Je hebt uitstekende foto's van paddestoelen en deze is zeker een van de beste.

Wat een mooi verhaal en je foto is echt heel heel prachting. Perfect hoe het licht er op chijnt en de grijze achtergrond 'maakt'deze paddestoelen nog feller.
