A very nice bike trip of 40 km

Nature area.the Cans
The Cans is a nature reserve in West Zeeland-Flanders, located between Oostburg, Groede and Nieuwvliet. The area measures 45 hectares and is owned by the Zeeuwse Landschap Foundation.

The area is located in the New Groveschepolder. Originally this was the Old Yvepolder, but in 1583 the dikes were pierced. In 1613, reinclusion was followed. The tidal action has created a relief landscape.

Nowadays it is a pasture reserve with a large plain open water inside. Since 1969 the area is connected to De Reep and the Nieuwkerkse Kreek via a drainage channel. Around 1995, this drainage channel was disconnected from the open water, so that its water level could be better regulated because rainwater was no longer disposed of immediately.

The area is especially important as a breeding area for pasture birds and as a plot for waterfowl, such as the smith. Until the vegetation, farm grass and veldgerst belong. In a single place, sea cyst is still present, but desalination continues, which causes this plant to become more and more rare.

In 2007 a bird-watching hut was built at the Ringdijk
