After the Big Fire Photo

Photographer’s Note

In the night of January 23, 1904, a fire left Ålesund in ashes.
The town was the scene of a big fire, one of the most terrible of the many conflagrations to which Norwegian towns, once built largely of wood, have been subjected.
Practically the entire town was destroyed during the night and the population had to leave the town in the middle of the night with only a few minutes'

The city was rebuild in Art Nouveau style, locally known as Jugendstil.
The rebuilding of Ålesund created one of Europe´s most characteristic towns in Art Nouveau.

Very pretty colors and composition is well balanced. Looks like they did well rebuilding after the tragedy.

Cloudy and gray sky is certainly not the best weather conditions for photography, but here result is very good. Some details visible in the sky, photo is quite colorful, nothing is under-exposed.
I think some extra sharpening would be good, because houses look slightly blurred.

Kris,
I see the weather did not cooperate with you in Alesund. The day I spent there we had a little sun and blue sky and then it turned very gray for the rest of the day. Alesund is a beautiful city and you have captured a nice piece of it. Your composition is nice using the reflection to create depth and balance. The curve of the wharf leads the eye through the shot nicely giving the shot nice direction. The inclusion of the monument was a nice touch.
