The further up north you get the shorter the days will be in the winter.

To day a little reminder, from a grey day, with this shot taken at 12:00 (The exif says 13:00 due to lack of adjustment from the summer). Of course the low and very grey clouds filled with snow makes the day even darker.

The sun was up at 08.59 and will set 15:56. But not too bad as the day is already 1 hr. longer than it was at the shortest around Dec. 21st.

The photo from the islands in the outer Oslo fjord called Hvaler. Very popular in the summer, almost forgotten in the winter time only populated by some few all year locals. Motif from Utgårdskilen.

Good continuing series on a bleak cold Norwegian winter. NIcely framed simple landscape.

Hi Jack,
Actually, I thought you would have shorter days by now (still it's impressive the where the sun is at 12:00!)! We (Lisbon, Portugal) are having the sunrise at about 8:00 (a bit early than 8) and the sunset at about 18:00. I'm allwyas amazed with the weather conditions in places like yours (I think I couldn't survive in there...)

Very good composition, well framed by these rocks. The lighting is marvellous and the reflections in the water, enhance the dramatic atmosphere. Very well done!

Bonjour mon ami Jack,
Cette photo nous offre un magnifique paysage agrémenté de cap qui s'avance dans la mer où le soleil essaie de percer à travers les nuages.
Très belle composition.
Amitiés.
Philippe

High noon! Well, it is very interesting. It reminds me "Insomnia" movie. Regards.

Hello Jack

Somehow I cant see John Wayne or Clint Eastwood sauntering through this image. Wonderful lighting & contrast. Good work!

Hi Jack, you really convey the feeling how such a short day can feel so high up north. The fact that the pic is almost monochrome contributes to this in a big way. Well composed and atmospheric work.
Have a nice weekend,
Bert

Hi Jack,
Looking at this composition I know remember that the nights are quite long in winter in your contry and that the days never end in summer :-) So the sun is quite low tot he horizon for this month at noon just like at a sunset.
So This one is nearly a beautiful sunst. I like your landscape here and agree with the strong foreground opening a window to the light.
Beautiful
Jean Michel

Hi Jack,
Again a very moody capture of winter,I like the dark tones again but still with a lot of visible details. The foreground adds a strong graphic appeal.
Greetings,
Hermann

An apt title for this quintessential Norwegian scene, Jack. Good illustration of the somber mood being broken by the sun making a short appearance, and well-included reflection to amplify the effect. Good framing in which the undulating coastal landscape leads the eye along the view.

Thank you for sharing this shot and filling us in on the time of day that you took it. What a difference from what Pennsylvania looked like at noon on January 17! A super documentary photo, Jack!

Hi Jack, I like most of your late seaside winter views. This one is my favorite. I like the roundness of the rocks in the foreground and the soft light brightly opening the sky is great.
