Something by the road when biking in the neighborhood a fine Sunday in April.

This little church, Hovin in Spydeberg, 45 km east of Oslo, was raised in 1720, on an old ancient holy ground. Probably already before Christian time there was a place here for worshiping the old Gods (Tor and Odin) on the hilltop. In catholic time the church was dedicated St. Michael. In 1716 the Swedish king Karl XII come by as he retreated with his army (some 3000 soldiers and riders) after a failed try to conquer Akershus Castle in Oslo. In need to cross the huge nearby river Glomma he required the timber for the church to build rafts for the crossover of the river. From that it took 4 years for the locals to raise this little church to be finished in 1720.

Your comments/critics most welcome - but pls. never say: "As made by Disney" - because it is the other way around: "Could have been a model for Disney" :-)

Beautiful light and very well chosen point of view behind the tree, the two elements combined create an appealing image of an otherwise unspectacular scenery.

I think it's a great composition. The way how the tree almost frames the right and the top is very interesting.

hi jack,
Could have been a model for Disney, but there are number of things in Norway which could serve as models for Disney.
I pretty well remember those old wooden churches in Norway, they are so beautiful. And this one - so nicely captured with that graveyard in front - excellent.
Nice colours, and shame for us that Norge is aleady greener than Poland at this time of the year.
Have a nice day, Jerzy

Hello, Jack! This picture is very nicely composed - I especially like the branches and root of the tree framing the church. The tombstones also improve composition by leading to it's deep. Maybe I would move the cadre a little to the right, but not necessarily. Well done!
regards,
Grzegorz

Hej Jack,
I like here the nice upwards perspective, the fact you show the churcjh together with its environment, the excellent use of the tree to frame the view and the good light & colors, just I find the church tower slightly overexposed, anyway a great view !
Have a nice day,
jean-Yves

Hi Jack. A beautiful countryside view from Norway in which the fine old church is well framed by the old tree in the foreground. The scattered arrangement of the headstones in the foreground is well included in the scene, and the light is well controlled as it plays with the pastel colors. Nice one.

Beautiful light and colors in this image,Jack!
Good compo with the "framing"tree in the foreground.
Well done!

I like the combination of the colours here, Jack, b(l)eautiful blue against the white walls of the church, the black of the trees, really nice. The compostion also, very well managed, the church surrounded by these trees and a foreground with the stones, this is a fantastic total-picture !
(And an interesting note)

very nice picture, Jack
neat, sharp and clear, and excellent framing

Hi Jack

Superb graphism, with the white house against the dark background. Excellent color & sharpness, & well cropped & framed. Good work!

The framing by the tree is excellent and we discover this nice chapell.
Well shown, whith good colors.
I'd like to be buried here for sure.

Good note,Jack!
Great POV and excellent framing by the tree in right and artistically composed the view.
I appreciate your work here,in point of tech it's excellent from sharpness to colors all things are excellent.
I like also the view is without some poeple,it's good,I preffer this than if you had the shot with someone, this matter made the shot a bit spiritual, too, for me,and your angle and the way you look to the scene add to this atmosphere,...Thanks Jack!
it's great work dear!
Yours
M

Hi Jack, when I saw your beautiful shot what I thought first of, was not Disney but the famous Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters who through epitaphs describes the lives of a small comunity in Illinois in the 19th century.

The composition is really charming, the contrast between the white church, the deep blue sky and the black trees is excellent.

great colours ad also the pov is really nice too

Beautiful white church with beautiful natural framing! The church and the trees look very nice against blue sky. The branch on the foreground adds a depth to the picture.
Thanks for share.

Nicely framed with the dark tree at right. It looks like a peacefull place, a bit lonely though. I like the simplicity of the stones in this cemetery.

Hi, Jack

Nice composition with the brunches encircling the church and forming a frame within a frame.

Well done.

It is beautiful Jack,
It's a shame that I miss a lot of good photo's, very good composing shot, great point of view, very nice details, very good job, I like the good job here,
gr. Jaap

Wow, this looks like a Disney tale church… ;-)

I understand what you feel because many times we assume the things we see first as the older ones, as the models to others, but that is not necessarily true. For example the Pena Palace in Sintra (the first truly romantic palace in Europe) was the inspiring palace for the German 19th century palaces, but people assume the contrary just because the German palaces are more famous…

This one has great colors and your use of the light is quite nice has it hits the church fully highlighting it and at the same time keeping the other details like the grave stones in shadow not to compete with the main element. Also like a lot the way you’ve included the tree at the right. Except for a minor geometry correction everything is great.

wonderful contrast anc coloures on your photo make it special. Braavo

Jack, tu as su rendre toute la beauté d'un tel lieu chargé d'histoire. J'aime ce blanc sur fond bleu avec des arbres d'hiver. Les pierres dressées sont certainement des tombes, autrefois on plaçait les cimetières près des églises.
