This is the square of the old fortified town in Fredrikstad, Norway. This is only an impression of the whole. It choose this picture because it had no marks of modern time on it (others show road signs, cars, shops....)
Fredrikstad itself is a small town with ons shopping mall, but no assets to make a detour.
This fortified town however is very beautiful and reflects Norway the way it used to be.
For those travelling to Sweden (like us) it makes a nice day break, only 30km from the swedish border.
The E6 rolls right next to it on its way to Oslo about 110km more north.
Upon passing the border be aware you have to pay toll, both ways and as well on the highway as on secundary roads. (toll is 23SEK or 20NKK each way)
When returning to Sweden, don't forget to stop at Halden with it's fortress overlooking the city (see my other picture) |
