Kristiansten Fortress, a photo from Sor-Trondelag, Sud

Photographer's Note

Not so many shots on TE of this fortress so here is one more. Kristiansten Fortress was built between 1681-1685 AD after the great fire of Trondheim to protect against invasion from the east. It fulfilled its purpose in 1718 AD when Swedish forces laid siege against Trondheim but failed to capture the city.

In World War II, Norway held out against invading German forces for the 2nd longest period of time after Russia, but eventually the country was overrun and the pro Nazi Quisling government came to power. Many Norwegian resistance fighters were executed at this Fortress. You can see part of the roofs and chimneys at top right where this occurred in the museum courtyard. After the war, there was a 2nd round of shootings in 1947, this time of collaborators and Quisling Nazi supporters & traitors such as Henry Rinnan who worked for the Gestapo. More information here:

Hello Chris,
A fortress with a grisly tale or two to relate. You have framed it very well making excellent use of the stone wall as a lead-line. The composition is nicely balanced and benefits from agreeable lights and colours. Excellent clarity.

Very nice light, considering the dark past of this place. I like the tones of yellow and green, the off-centre position of the building and the view towards the fjord.

An interesting castle and also interesting light. The photo info says it was taken at 0:43 - is that correct. It was certainly taken late evening.
