Photographer’s Note

A different approach to this old theme… Photographing the Photographer!

This was a difficult photo for two reasons: I had to photograph almost straight into the sun, and the machine was entirely black!

This fellow in the aircraft is on some kind of photo job, looking for details since the altitude is less than 100 m. The helicopter is the ideal platform for this kind of work, because of the machine’s flexibility of action.

The history of helicopter is long and complex as the principle was first mentioned in 4th-century China, referred to as Pao Phu Tau, and is reported to describe some of the ideas inherent to rotary wing aircraft.

surely a very difficult picture, have done a more unspectacular capture some times ago, and i remember it as very difficult manor..

Hello Pablo,

the shutter speed had to be very fast to capture the propeller of the helicopter still! Yes I guess it was a difficult photo. Did you try to darken the sky in pp?
It's quitea good composition thanks to the helicopter forming a diagonal and being more to the right so to give the idea of the direction in which is moving. Pity that the sky is too pale.

Hi Pablo,
As you say in your note, this one is a difficult photo. The cross-light was very strong, and the helicopter was totally black, which gives a result with a strong contrast.
The composition is very interesting and simple, but with a lot of symbolism, a photographer hunting another photographer.

Hi Pablo

The back lit situation did not help for the colors of the sky and of the helicopter. You have captured well the photographer inside the helicopter. Also the blades are not frozen they are still moving. Have a good weekend.

You know very well by now what I think of photos like this. It is a an excellent photo indeed very simplistic with the black helicopter almost in silhouette against the plain sky. The blurred rotor blades is great an adds a feeling of motion. I also like the reflection of the sun in the front window of the helicopter. TFS and have a nice weekend!

Indeed Pablo take of a plane is not easy, certainly when this a black plane.
Both screws are in movement this is very important for a good picture, technical.

Great idea for a photo! The silhouette of the helicopter is very elegant and I understand how difficult a photo it was to take; but you managed very well and the sharpness is very good!
Maybe the photographer was working for Google Earth street view!?-:))

Indeed it is a very difficult job shooting into the sky. Even if the helicopter was brightly coloured the chances would be it was under-exposed. However it's fantastic you were able to almost fill the frame. The fast shutter speed is a good indication of the speed of the rotor blades.

the dark silhouette of the helicopter is the expected one because of you shoot in contrary to the brilliant light of the day.The result is good as the edges of the helicopter are presented with a good way against the blue sky.

Good action shot under extreme condition as you wrote in your note, compliments you succeeded to capture the helicopter very sharp, however the photographer is difficult to spot. I tried photoshop by replacing the color of the sky, it did not work, in plain English, it almost is impossible to do better. To cut a long story short, well done
