An Evening by The Lake Photo

Photographer’s Note

This tiny lake is located 45-50 km from the nearest city Trondheim and is reached after around one hour of driving, the last kilometres along a narrow gravel forest road. During summer the lake is used for fishing, swimming and boating and in autumn the area is attractive for the moose hunting.

Statistics shows that every fourth household in Norway has a cabin, cottage or second house of some kind intended for leisure activities, usually in mountain areas or by the coastline. The leisure time places are located within a couple of hours drive from home, and normally used during weekends. Some cabins are only intended for summertime use, while others are used all year.

Depending on location some of the cabins are of a very simple standard, for instance lacking electricity other than what is produced from solar panels. In the other end of the scale you find weekend places of an almost embarrassing size and standard…

The two cottages you see here are no doubt in the lower end of the scale, but with a fine location by the lakeside and within agreeable distance from the city so I will guess this is an easy place to sell if the owner wants to get rid of it!

it shows me a relaxation here. i like you keep most space for this foreground. it shows me this is a wild lake, but the houses along to the lake, are telling me many people like to enjoy their time there. good cropping too. nice work.

An attractive and serene composition. I like the point of view and the presence of the foreground reeds, whihc create a good sense of depth. The warm light across the trees in the background makes a pleasing contrast with the cool tones of the slightly rippling waters.

A very strong scandinavian atmosphere underlined by a fine warm light and well saturated colours. I like how you divided the photogram giving a large space to the lake and only a small portion to the land creating in this way a fine sense of depth. The water surface is pleasant the the two houses are natural focal points.

Hi Pablo,

The mirror effect on the water of the lake is an asset to the composition. The trees are framing well the houses. The point of view leads our eyes toward the houses which is giving depth to the photo. The late afternnon light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

You made good use of the evening light which is casting its glow on the scene. I like the touches of red from the typical wooden houses, and the golden reflections in the smooth part of the water.

Wonderful mood and great evening lighting. The red houses in the background is of course the main subject here. The reed and the water are very much a lead in to the houses on the other side of the lake. Reed could easily look a bit oversharpened, but here is does not matter since the houses are the focal point. TFS and have a nice weekend!

I visited Trondheim for one day, during my cruise to North Cape. Lovely image, the lake has a silvery blue color that creates a nice contrast to the other side, where trees and houses are lit by the sun. Excellent composition!

Hello Pablo, I wonder if the statistics show what is the most popular colour for these cabins, I would guess that a favourite may just be red. ;-). Nice shot, well composed with the inclusion of reeds in FG, nice shimmering effect on the rippling water, nice warm tones in the distant pine trees & those red buildings look magnificent, it certainly looks like a lovely spot for some recreational activities and relaxation.

Lake is always a nice place to retreat due to water featured in the landscape. The partly submerged tall grass in the foreground makes a lot of different in this shot. The light catching on the other side is just perfect with small ripples on the surface. Outstanding image in very good layers of attraction and thanks for sharing.
