Autumn Mountain II Photo

Photographer’s Note

What you see here are the outskirts of Forollhogna National Park, and the landscape is characterized by slowly rolling hills and mountains shaped by the ice rather than rugged summits.

The National Park was established as late as 2001, and covers 1062 km2 of mountain area in Central Norway. No roads are leading into the park so trekking or riding are the only alternatives to get there.

Forollhogna is widely known for the population of wild reindeer, as one of two areas in Norway. In the mountain valleys we find summer farms, some of them still in use with cows and goats during the summer months, and a few are selling traditional produce like milk and cream, butter and cheese and believe me, nothing you get in grocery stores can compare!

The NP has a rich wildlife, reindeer already mentioned but also birds like eagles, hawks and owls, mountain ducks and many others, and if you’re lucky you can meet bear and wolf too. Mountain fox, wolverine and lynx complete the picture.

Hi Pablo,

very moody composition. The soft lighiting with the strong colors are quite pleasant and it matches all that atmosphere. Great idea to include the blurred tree in the foreground. It enhances the depth for sure. Super fine details and good exposure management. Great job!

Here I like especially this wonderful warm and somehow soft light which "caresses" the landscape. A day, a scenery from the fairytale, really worth to be shown here. Theses "layers" of colours in the photo are beautiful. Autumn at its best!

Hi Pablo,

The point of view is allowing us to see the different level of forest and the mountains in the background which is giving depth to the composition. The late afternoon light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

It's a captivating but barren landscape, it does not look very inviting. Interesting that this is at the outskirt of a national park. Obviously the reindeer must like this kind of territory. Besides the contrasts of the brown-red ridge vs. the blue sky with the very dark cloud is bold and stimulating at the same time. It's a very isolated place, I guess. Well done

Autumn has arrived to Norway too. High viewpoint gives good view of forest and higher mountaineous ground on warm light and autumn colours. That one twig is a fine foreground detail.

Another superb sight on this gigantic national park. The autumnal colors arise still better here I find and this tree isolated on the left spillplate the image. I will like to meet the wolves but perhaps a little less the bears !!! Pleasant wild space, thank you Pablo.

Hi Pablo,
I am amazed at the colours of the lower part of the photo! but these are autumnal colours of the "fading" Nature: a grand, magnificent sight! the heavy lower part is very well balanced by the soft cloud in the sky over the mountains and also by the thin tree in the FG (which adds a good sense of depth as well :))
Excellent perspective! sort of a "layered" view :)

You have a preference for the empty and wild spaces, and so do I! This photo is well composed and has several tecnical qualities: first of all the peculiar light an colours. The differnt grounds give a good sense of depth and that fine cloud in the sky completes the composition.

A really fine mountain scene. Excellent colours and sharpness. The inclusion of the tree in the foreground is a great idea, but to be quite frank I would have preferred a tree that was not blurred. TFS and have fine week!
