The Valley of My Childhood [2]

I was thirteen when I left Gauldalen behind, after living there since I was born… In this series it is my aim to show the diversity and daily life in this area, during all seasons of the year.

This nostalgic flashback shows machinery that once had an importance in development of the area, and I’m sure some of the experts in TE can provide some information on this tractor.

The tractor was found not far from the roadside, and judged by the appearance it has been there for years. A pity I think, since it seems to me this specimen must be worthy a life in a technical or agricultural museum!

Traditionally farming was important in Gauldalen, and it still has some significance not the least what concerns the landscape. Economically however there are other trades far more important these days…

------

Gauldalen is a valley in the central part of Norway in the county Sør-Trøndelag. The latitude for this area is around 64, which is the same as in the middle of Alaska. However, the climate is better than in Alaska because of an ocean stream bringing warm water from the Caribbeans.

Gauldalen is approximately 100 km long. The river Gaula runs in the valley in the northwest direction from its origin in the mountains around 30-40 km from the Swedish border. A moving glacier at the end of the last ice age shaped the valley 10-20.000 years ago. At that time the ocean level was approx 200 meters higher as compared with today, and one can easily find several geological formations created in the last period of the ice age.

Wow, the mood is superbly captured, the colours, lights and textures are brilliant. Overall the composition is lovely and very thematic.

Hi, Pablo. What I find amazing here is that the tractor fits very well in the landscape. Its rusty colours match the tones of the grass perfectly while the green of the trees is a very good backdrop. The framing is very good with the grass surrounding the tractor to bring it out. Very good colours.

olá, great capture. very well composed. great colors and sharpness. congratulations pedro almeida

Bonjour, mon ami Pablo,
Philippe

Hello Pablo,

And not a sheep in sight!
They would certainly have cleared the grass!

The tractor may have been abandoned but somehow, it just seems right in that place! It belongs!
Nice details of neglect!

I do like the changing layers of colour, getting ever darker, as the eye travels into the shot.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Pablo. I like these old and rusty tractors (and also cars) very much. Usually they stand in nature and from plants will somewhere over-grow. And as viewers one is astonished at the old technology. The review into the time long passed is a pleasant experience. As said: a picture worth seeing. Best regards, Wolfgang.

Hello Pablo,
A good capture of this old and apparently abandoned tractor. The light suits the mood and brings out the textures of the old metal to very good effect. A very pleasing composition.

Hi Pablo,
Abundant objects are always nostalgic for those who can appreciate and it always tells a lot of stories despite having lost its usefulness. I like how the soft textures surrounding all the metals managed to bring out this tractor so effectively. The strong light seemed to enhanced it even further. Well done!!

Have a great weekend. Regards.

Hi Pablo,

The old tractor is receiving a good light which brings out the colors. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the tractor. The subject is surrounded by the vegetation and by the trees. There is a good contrast between the colors. Have a good weekend.

Splendid catch of the old tractor in the high grass of the field. The light is most attractive, especially where it gives the grass a golden hue. I like the green tones of the background too, also in contrast with the foreground. Thanks for sharing!

The wonderful old rusty relic of a bygone era appears quite majestic in the golden rye. The lovely lush green background of evergreen forest contrast brilliantly with the rusted old hulk. This is a common scene in North America and like this one mostly stripped of useable parts.

Hi Pablo,
a light and a few really attractive summers colors, wich give much beauty to this tractor in spite of being left and oxidized.

Hello Pablo,

Each of us at Trekearth are feeling vicariously the sense of nostalgia you clearly feel as you travel to your roots. This is a beautiful bucolic scene from Gauldalen, and the rusty tractor dates the place perfectly. The Vikings left it there!

Excellent note as usual. Warm regards,

Bulent

Hello Pablo, a rather rare subject on TE which I like well, I also notice that I there with step of tire, but of the wheels to the pointed form for hanging the ground well, it at more 50 years this tractor, this kind of antiquity is to seek by a small category of collectors, if one of have finds this photograph on TE, not doubt That it will go in Gauldalen and goes excavated this valley, same if it is located in the central area of Norway, which beautiful object really, sincerely..................

Speaking about all machines, this agricultural tractro looks lie it will no be able to track something anymore. It looks like a dead monster slowly getting back to the earth it came from, the rust it turning back into the iron ore which provided the steel it is made off.

Hej pablo,
sorry i haven't been able to have my thoughts about this oldie as I've been hanging around in Porto for the last week (great town)
It's a beautiful iron horse that goes well to the surrounding spruce forrest in BG and the warm colored grass.
Im not an expert of those machines but I know that there was a lot of russian tractor that look similar to this one that was common in Jämtland. It needs a deeper research.

There are elements particularly damaged, which for various reasons offered a singular beauty, depending on the angle that it observes.

what a great shot! This one is absolutely wonderful work. I like the colors of the grass in the foreground and this old tractor, beautiful.
A nice composition and a wonderful shot, nice one!

Best regards
Mark

Hi Pablo,

Beautiful nostalgic composition and one with great symbolic in it.
The time passing by and eroding our memories symbolized in this wasted tractor.

Groet Rob

A little bit of paint, some spit and polish, and it would be good as new. Whether it runs is a different story.
Great sharp picture, well lit with interesting play of shadows and a painters palette of colors!
Cheers
Otto

Hello Pablo
This experienced tractor never thought it could be engulfed some day by herbs he worked so hard to mow down!
I presume that spikes on rear wheels were very useful on Norwewgian hills!
The spirit of an era.
Best regards.

pablo

interesting light, made the plants in the lower area like a golden fog. The old machine is very nice put, the dark trees in the background created 2 strips of different greens.

Hello Pablo!
Time comes, time goes... This is a capture more of time transitivity than of the tractor itself.
Friendly,
Anton

Olá Pablo, excellent detail of this old tractor. Yes, it looks quite interesting and still in good shape to be a splendid piece for an agricultural museum. But somehow, it's also great to see it in this environment, surrounded by vegetation. Nice nostalgic one.
Have a nice weekend,
ricardo
