Tromsø Cathedral (Tromsø domkirke) in Tromsø, Norway is the seat of the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland, the only Norwegian cathedral made of wood, and is an example of wooden Gothic revival. It is likely to be the northernmost Protestant cathedral in the world. With 800 seats, it's one of Norway's biggest wooden churches.
The structure was completed in 1861, with Christian Heinrich Grosch as the architect. It was built using a cog joint method. It is situated in the middle of Tromsø on a site where there in all likelihood has been a church since the 13th century.
A wooden church already stood on the grounds when the cathedral was built, which was first relocated to the area immediately south of the city border and then in the early 1970's to Elverhøy further up the hills in the city. This church is still there, and it contains a number of pieces of art that have adorned the churches in Tromsø from the middle ages on. The oldest object is a Madonna figure, possibly from the 15th. TROMSØ CITY
Tromsø city is the ninth largest urban area in Norway by population, and the seventh largest city in Norway by population. It is the largest city and the largest urban area in North Norway, and the second largest city and urban area in Sápmi (following Murmansk).
The area has been inhabited since the end of the ice age, and the Sámi culture is the first known culture of the region. Speakers of Norse, the ancestor of Norwegian brought their culture to the area during the migrations of the Vikings before AD 890, when Ohthere's settlement existed to the south of today's Tromsø. The first church on the island of Tromsøya was erected in the 13th century, and the area one of Denmark-Norway's very northernmost territories not contested by Russia. During the 1600s, Denmark-Norway solidified its claim to the northern coast of Scandinavia and during this period a redoubt, Skansen, was built. Tromsø was issued its city charter in 1794 by King Christian VII. The city was established as a municipality 1 January 1838. The rural municipalities of Tromsøysund and Ullsfjord, and most of Hillesøy, were merged with Tromsø on 1 January 1964. The population of Tromsø municipality is 63,596, and the urban area, Norway's ninth most populous, is home to 53,622 people.
Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the small island of Tromsøya in the county of Troms, 350 kilometres (217 mi) inside the arctic circle. The island is connected to the mainland by the Tromsø Bridge and the Tromsøysund Tunnel, and to the island of Kvaløya by the Sandnessund Bridge. The city is warmer than most other places located on the same latitude, due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream.
The city centre of Tromsø contains the highest number of old wooden houses in North Norway, the oldest house dating from 1789. The Arctic Cathedral, a modern church from 1965, is probably the most famous landmark in Tromsø. The city is a cultural centre for its region, several festivals taking place in the summer. The largest football team in the city, Tromsø I.L, plays in the Norwegian Premier League.

Hi Janak.
It's a nice motive, although the trees block some of
the church. The trees are not so sharp either, but I
like the moon and most of the church. The church is
the main object, so I think you could have try to find
a place where there were no trees blocking if
possible. Still, it is smart to include the moon,
which creates a dramatic effect. You could use a
tripod (If you did, it's smart to use the self trigger
to get them sharper). Maybe it's the wind too.
Regards from Bergen.

Hi Janak,
Very nice shot, though the sharpness is very week, using a tripod or resting your camera on a stabel surface will help. I like here is the atmosphere and the mood of the place. with the moon above, it seem it would have been a very romantic night, but somehow it seem a bit more spooky than being romantic. Perhaps it's because there is not much else around. Anyway, thanks for the effort.

Hi Janak, a most beautiful and eerie full moon beautifully composed with the church in front of it. Great choice with the vertical frame. The image is a little small, I'd love to see more detail as it really is an interesting nightshot. TFS, Lisa
