Photographer’s Note

I am sorry I have so few autumn colours to offer this year but so far the season has been terrible! The leaves were blown off the trees while they were still green and the weather has been hopeless in every respect.

The sky offers some colours once in a while, but the rest of the landscape stays in black and white! However the last few days we got a pleasant sunny weather, I will see what the coming weekend will bring…

As the exif shows, this scene is underexposed by -0.67 EV.

Hello Pablo.
Extraordinary sky you have captured with help of the CPL, while retaining so much detail in the shadowy landscape below. I suppose the snow lightened your under-exposure sufficiently. The tones in the sky are very suggestive of autumn colours, so no need for the foliage. It's what I would call a very moody landscape, with a great sense of space.

I understand your disappointment at not having any golden leaves to photograph, but your golden sky is probably more magical. Hi Pablo,

The light of the sunrise is giving nice colors to the sky and some shadows to the trees. The point of view takes my eyes toward the mountain which is giving depth to the composition. The reflection of the light on the snow is enhancing the colors of the sky. Have a nice day.

What a moody sunrise as if the sun is lazy to wake up, or as a message, that soon the nights will be very long and the days very short, almost turning into night. It's a bit melancholic but I like it. Well done

Hi Pablo: Sorry about your autumn this year that you found it to be worst in years. I can see that you still can make excellent pictures despite of the weather. You have a very good land/sky division here in exposing the sky during sunrise. The slightly UE kept the exposure on the white hill intact and beautiful framing in this shot. The silhuette of the hill divides the photogram in 1/3 giving a deserving room to the interesting sky and creating a balanced composition. It's a strange photo, the contrast between the cold dark and snowy hill and the golden down is very strong and creates a peculiar atmosphere. It looks like a painting rather than a photo. Now I understand the colours of some Northern painters of the past... I seem to see the Valkyries riding in that sky! And watch out for the hammer of Thor!

A landscape that its beautiful for its simplicity and smooth shapes, an amazing light and sky very well captured, a minimalist compo that is the most appropriate to the subject. I like it very much. It always amazes me to see sunrises and sunsets in snowy landscapes, specially if they keep much of the natural blue, like here, because the oranges suggest warmth and the white and blues suggest cold.

Yes, as you rightly said, the landscape per-se is in duotones, with the sky offering some nice colours. Like the gradation of colours from the left to right. Despite shooting into light, the details in the shadows have been well brought out. Well done!

C'est déjà une photo d'hiver de chez toi alors qu'ici on a des tons d'automne dans tout le pays. Cette photo est néanmoins très belle avec la montagne qui fait le gros dos sous la neige et dessous un très beau ciel.

It seems that the winter has come to your country. The colors in the sky and in the clouds have a nice contrast with the hills covered with snow and the almost black trees.
The aperture priority program has given you a high shot speed, but the underexposure that you have forced with-0.67 EV has a good result in the composition, with a dramatic touch.

Very beautiful Sunrise color, a nice combination of warm gold and blue and a nice contrast with the ice cold of the snow capped mountain. Minimalist composition, I like the openess of the area. I might have said it before, but I feel it need an achor point to draw us in, like a silhouetter of larger tree or a house or something in the foreground or middle to draw our attention. Beautiful color and light regardless.
