Photographer's Note

Tromsøysundet, Troms, Norway.

I was surprised that, as we neared the city of Tromsø, the light pollution from the town did not kill off the display of the Aurora, though it probably diluted it somewhat. In fact these few moments were the most dramatic that we saw on the whole voyage. Of course I used a tripod, but from the deck of a moving ship (albeit in calm waters), the main difficulty was to choose a shutter speed long enough to record the Aurora, but short enough to avoid camera shake. Sometimes I managed it, but I've had to bin a fair few others.
