| Here we have view on Camara de Lobos small fishing village at the eastern foot of Cabo Girao, not so far from Funchal - capital city of Madeira Island. The village owes its name to the monk seals (Portuguese lobo = wolf) which once used to inhabit the bay. The village is one of the oldest settlements on Madeira, having been founded by Joao Goncalves Zarco in 1420. The village is main centre on island for fishing, in particular the espada, fished here at night from depths of over 800m and then auctioned at the harbour in the early hours of the morning. Shot taken from the hill in the centre of village - the weather was really bad this day, but fortunately the sun came over the clouds for the minute and gave fantastic flare of light. To give more dramatic atmosphere I used ND Gradual Cokin Tobacco Filter. As You can see there is also vines cultivated around the village and one of the most famous Madeira Vinery comes here - "Henriques & Henriques". You can go to the plant and tasting 5, 10 or even 15 years old wine... Fantastic place! |
