Predatory fish on ice, seen in the fish market in Funchal.
The photo looks like subsequently processed and artistically altered. Indeed, it is unchanged compared to the original RAW image. There are in fact the reflections on the wet black fish. See the workshop.

Strong graphical sense of this image immediately grabs the eye - the subtle ranging of the colours, the detail and your stark triangular composition really makes this fish sing to the eye! Brilliant!!

Looks like a monster from some fifties horror film! A superb close-up on this denizen of the deep. The glassy like skin and eye take on a surrealist painterly effect. Well done.

my impression is awful!I don't know why it evokes terrible feelings... even though they may say that fish doesn't think, doesn't feel anything.. probably I should stop eating fish??
..which means, the photo conveys a strong emotional impact.
From the "technical" point of view, very good! colour-wise, a graphics-wise.. looks very much like a painting.
and wishes of a nice Sunday,

Huge eyes and huge teeth! What kind of fish is this really? A very interesting composition with a triangle and a circle, could have been a nonfigurative painting!
danos (73946) 2010-02-28 9:13
nice presentation of this fish on the ice looking so ugly and terrible. I like its clarity as its glittering too.Well done.
Have a nice week,danos

Delicate operation to remove the fishhook mouth of this predator !!! I hope that it is more appetizing than its beauty... A brightness which does not leave any doubt about the freshness of the product… Interesting glance, thank you Wolfgang.
With all my friendships and a very good evening,

Big eye, sharp and long teeth, I like how you've framed that frozen head of the barracuda ...the clarity allows to see well the details, textures and colours.
pablominto (53744) 2010-02-28 22:51
The barracuda doesn't look very friendly, no way!
Reminds me of the fairytale with little Redhood, who's grandmother had such big eyes and big mouth hehehe...
The tight framing works well in directing attention and adding drama!

was für ein kleines (oder großes) Monster. Sieht wie ein Kunstwerk in Eis aus, toll fotografiert

I really like this strong, artistic image. You have composed it well with the fish head creating a bold triangle. Love thee colours and shine of it.

While this picture was very slowly opening on my mionitor I wondered "what on earth is this". Finally I realized it was a highly original and graphically very attractive "portrait".
Thanks for sharing,

Amazing and menacing eyes. The ice provided great luminosity. Good work, congratulations!

J'aime beaucoup cette photo qui fait penser à une nature morte d'un grand peintre. Le graphisme est magnifique. Du grand art !

Wow Wolfgang, this is certainly different. Brilliant reflections, colours and textures. Colours have some resemblance to an opal gemstone - but I am sure the smell is a very different. I have a theme for this fish. Tfs, Marlene

Hi Wolf, This is an extraordinary and compelling image. It has such a strong painterly quality and fills the frame with such balanced and dramatic shapes. The sharply angled composition enhances the sense of drama and menace. regards Kevin

Hello Mr. Schanze,
I am astonished by this close capture of that fish. I don't think that the animal is a huge one, but your approach makes it look like a jurassic monster! The "greasy" texture makes it look even more real.
Giedra70 (961) 2010-07-15 11:15
My impression is awful!
