Photographer's Note

Predatory fish on ice, seen in the fish market in Funchal.

The photo looks like subsequently processed and artistically altered. Indeed, it is unchanged compared to the original RAW image. There are in fact the reflections on the wet black fish. See the workshop.

Strong graphical sense of this image immediately grabs the eye - the subtle ranging of the colours, the detail and your stark triangular composition really makes this fish sing to the eye! Brilliant!!

Looks like a monster from some fifties horror film! A superb close-up on this denizen of the deep. The glassy like skin and eye take on a surrealist painterly effect. Well done.

my impression is awful!I don't know why it evokes terrible feelings... even though they may say that fish doesn't think, doesn't feel anything.. probably I should stop eating fish??

..which means, the photo conveys a strong emotional impact.

From the "technical" point of view, very good! colour-wise, a graphics-wise.. looks very much like a painting.

The barracuda doesn't look very friendly, no way!
Reminds me of the fairytale with little Redhood, who's grandmother had such big eyes and big mouth hehehe...
The tight framing works well in directing attention and adding drama!

zunächst hielt ich dieses Bild für das Werk eines bildenden Künstlers (was es natürlich auch ist!), und ich wäre nie auf die Idee gekommen, dass es ein Photo vom Fischmarkt ist. Das Licht und die Farben sind bemerkenswert, aber die Reflektionen sind das Tüpfelchen auf dem i. Mein Glückwunsch zu diesem ganz wunderbaren Bild!

I am astonished by this close capture of that fish. I don't think that the animal is a huge one, but your approach makes it look like a jurassic monster! The "greasy" texture makes it look even more real.
