Photographer’s Note
The Furnas valley of San Mighel island is where the volcanic nature of the Azores islands is most readily apparent. Natives of this beautiful valley have exploited the caldeiras (hot springs) for centuries, cooking a kind of stew called "cozido" using the natual steam venting along the shores of Furnas lake.
