Photographer’s Note

This is my first ??successfull?? atempt to catch the movement of the earth. It was taken um a very small and almost abandoned village near Castelo Branco, called Vale do Homem, it has moreless about 50 houses, of which 45 are unoccupied, i was there for a week and i've only saw 5 different inhabitant. The house on the photo was lighten with a small torch for about 30 seconds and the intire exposition lasted about an hour.

Hi Sergio,
If this is really a first attempt, you must be very happy. I can tell you it's definitely successful! The composition with the buildings and the position of the north star within the frame is great, and the lighting on the building is a nice touch.
If you have the time, I'd love to know you go about calculating the exposure time for photos like this, as I'd like to have a go myself.

Very interesting picture! I really like your effect here. I was reading how to do these and it said to make sure you have a good and interesting foreground, which you have so well done!

A foto está muito bonita nomeadamente o céu com as estrelas.Conseguiste muito bem captar o movimento da terra. Valeu a pena o esforço.

Hi Sergio,

The thoughtful and well-exposed foreground makes this more than just an exercise in capturing movement with a bulb setting. Good use of the painting with light technique.

I have wondered how long I could actually go with a bulb setting on my 5D (and external grip) before my batteries died. I'd like to try getting complete circular star trails but that would take in the neighborhood of 2-3 hours (or more) I'm guessing.
