Student's residential houses throughout the old town Coimbra call as a "Republica".
Here is a typical house with signs declare it's "name".
The curved small alleys in the hill of the old-town are as typical I show here and in the WS's attached.
This area is near the Sé Velha de Coimbra, an old Cathedral built in the 12th century – so the area had begun it's ancient history during that time , when the count Afonso Henriques declared himself King of Portugal and chose Coimbra as capital.

The building looks to be in need of some tender loving care, but, nevertheless, still retains a certain charm. The composition is well framed and has good colours and sharpness.

The building is well placed in the frame. The pointy of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the student residential house. the late morning light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

amazing capture of this amazing architecture, this house seems to have been designed by children, isn't it?
have a good week-end!

buono il taglio e la luce su questa vecchia casa.
Un angolo poco noto che porti alla ribalta,

its whole appearance is artistic,
especially colors and letters on walls are splendid,
just like in an old cinema, the ambience is so tasteful,
thank you for your excellent shot,

a nice sample of the houses from the old town of Coibra is this one.I like its democratic name but the appearance of the house is in very bad condition and looks as to be abandon.

The architecture of this house is very unique, unfortunate that the facades are not well preserved and clean.
Magnificent point of view and details.

Strange, but also a wonderful house. Although badly damaged in itself has some special beauty. They must live there, very interesting people.Yours
מוזר, אבל גם בית נפלא. אמנם ניזוק קשות בפני עצמו יש יופי מיוחד. הם חייבים לחיות שם, אנשים מעניינים מאוד.

Fantastic composition with this curious and original home, the image is the essence of the old city.
Good handling of light with a good result which certainly was not easy, because the sun and shadows are very uneven. A soft, natural color that is doing very well.
Good start to week.

very nice view of the Prakistan republic, this means: Here they are, in portuguese. I liked the old building, so old, so high and surrounded by streets

A nice shot of this old rundown building. I still like the details and the way it is captured. It has its own charm architecture wise. I like the composition.

That is a very interesting house, with a peculiar shape, and it looks as though it is going to fall. Good work, congratulations!
clic (15414) 2012-07-30 5:16
Not quite the elegant triangular architecture of the Flat Iron building in New York but nevertheless it's self-adorned of a street light wich the former is not!
Anyway it's a very strange design, probably the work of Nubérobis, the absent-minded engineer in "Asterix and Cleopatra"!
jcpix (13716) 2012-11-27 16:28
Fantastic character in this building, so much texture and detail. I would suspect most people to just pass this by and think nothing of it, especially as student housing, but I think this has some stories to tell! I really like the shape, tall and angled with many turns and the placement on the corner adds another element to it's design. Well noticed and captured Ike!

Hi Ike !!
Good old house in need of maintenance and repairs.... but probably quite a fun place to live.
You managed to get most of the house in the frame from close range..... that is not easy to achieve.
Well done and good capture.
Have a nice week end.

This architecture looks like starange shape, so it has minimum function for living, although it isn't beautiful nor comfortable.
abmdsudi (44800) 2014-12-08 0:15
That building looks derelict but it was still inhabited, like how you have the point of view here with lots of detail as there seems to be more light available. Lovely natural faded colours highlighting some wonderful texture. Beauty in the mundane, well spotted! Congrats

I guess student housing is a bit run down in any country. Nicely shown, TFS.
