"Republica" in old Coimbra, a photo from Coimbra, Nord

Photographer's Note

Student's residential houses throughout the old town Coimbra call as a "Republica".
Here is a typical house with signs declare it's "name".
The curved small alleys in the hill of the old-town are as typical I show here and in the WS's attached.
This area is near the Sé Velha de Coimbra, an old Cathedral built in the 12th century – so the area had begun it's ancient history during that time , when the count Afonso Henriques declared himself King of Portugal and chose Coimbra as capital.

Hello Ike,
The building looks to be in need of some tender loving care, but, nevertheless, still retains a certain charm. The composition is well framed and has good colours and sharpness.

The building is well placed in the frame. The pointy of view is showing with precision the details and colors of the student residential house. the late morning light is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Coimbra is an university city, where a lot students come get we a lot protests, perhaps a reflection of our society.
You took a very good and sharp picture.

Good morning Ike,
a nice sample of the houses from the old town of Coibra is this one.I like its democratic name but the appearance of the house is in very bad condition and looks as to be abandon.

Fantastic composition with this curious and original home, the image is the essence of the old city.
Good handling of light with a good result which certainly was not easy, because the sun and shadows are very uneven. A soft, natural color that is doing very well.

Not quite the elegant triangular architecture of the Flat Iron building in New York but nevertheless it's self-adorned of a street light wich the former is not!
Anyway it's a very strange design, probably the work of Nubérobis, the absent-minded engineer in "Asterix and Cleopatra"!

Fantastic character in this building, so much texture and detail. I would suspect most people to just pass this by and think nothing of it, especially as student housing, but I think this has some stories to tell! I really like the shape, tall and angled with many turns and the placement on the corner adds another element to it's design. Well noticed and captured Ike!
