Ponte Dom Luís I is an iron arch bridge that spans the Douro River between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. At the time of construction its span of 172 m was the longest of its type in the world. This bridge was built between 1881 and 1885 by the Belgian Willebroeck Company. Teófilo Seyrig had already engineered the D. Maria Pia Bridge project, whilst working as a partner of Eiffel.

There are two roads, the lower one 10 meter, the upper 68 above the water. These days the upper road is for the metro only, at the time when this picture was taken it was a regular road for cars, etc.

This picture is a really early one for me, but I'm still proud of it. It was shot from an alley on Vila Nova de Gaia with my first camera (a Pentax Espio) camera during one of my first trips abroad. I hope I'm not getting too nostalgic here, just let me know...

A corner shooting quite masterful, great majesty.

I love as the metal structure is planned within the prospect, although it is a pity that the sky did not help much, but overall I think it is making an excellent composition. Well done.

Photographed with difficult conditions of light because much luminosity existed.This bridge has an architecture all in very beautiful iron.TFS

Great pov with the bridge starting in the upper right corner, going almost diagonaly into the frame. Quite good control of the light despite the sun.

I love this photo of the bridge. There is good depth and sharpness in this image. I really like how the bridge seems to disappear into the center of the frame. Very well done.

I love it. For a 1996 picture it is very good and very well preserved. May be you could have done a bit better on the sky as it appears a bit bright. However, the composition is superb with the bridge very well placed on the frame.
I believe I know the little street you are talking about. Is it the one that goes down to the river on Gaia side. I have done it a couple of times myself. I used to live in Porto when I started my university studies (long time ago) and I went many time to the Porto wine cellars in Gaia!!!
