The main reason to this post it's because there is no other view of this town in TE till now.
This is Almodôvar, a sleepy town in southern Baixo Alentejo, Southern Portugal. Like many place names in Portugal, especially in the South, this has Arabic origin, being Al-Mudawwar. The town is on the secondary route (N2) between the North and the Algarve, therefore doesn't have many visitors. If you are on the main routes, you can detour to Almodôvar in Gomes Aires (from the A2/IP1) or Santana da Serra (from the IC1).
In this last day of winter I reached Almodôvar from the Algarve, always on the N2, across the Serra do Caldeirão mountain range, a beautiful but wearisome drive. When I got there I was very exhausted; the late afternoon thunderstorms (and the tired children) didn't help my stamina and mood. So, the best I got was this snapshot of the town.
Once, the highest construction in Almodôvar was the tower of the Main Church (Igreja Matriz de Santo Ildefonso, centre-left of the photo). Nowadays it's the communications tower. This is my 100th post of Portugal.
The Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar has no relation with the Portuguese town of Almodôvar. He was born in a town near Almodóvar del Campo, in the Spanish region of Castilla-La Mancha.

Olá Francisco,
interessante essa foto, pois apesar do tempo fechado há uma parte do céu com tempo azul. Curioso esse nome mesmo, mas da pra reparar que não tem relação, pois o acento é diferente. Gosto dos filmes do Almodóvar, e em geral da maioria dos filmes Europeus, bem melhores que os enlatados americanos que nos empurram, que só possuem efeitos especiais, e história que é bom nada...

Ola Francisco,
While you may dismiss this a just a snapshot, the threatening sky gives a lot of drama and conttrasts nicely with the orderly town below. The sweeping curve into town is effective framing.

Bom dia Francisco, eu também fujo de vez em quando à desinteressante auto-estrada, mas depois arrependo-me porque me canso...Mértola - é por ali que tenho que ir, zona de S.Domingos que parece que tem a melhor praia fluvial de Portugal. O céu tempestuoso até ficou bem aqui e também gosto de ver a estrada a levar-nos por aí fora.

Você conseguiu uma imagem de muito boa qualidade, captando bem este céu amedrontador, que parece que vai desabar a qualquer momento.
As casas brancas com telhados vermelhos e aquela igreja que desponta no horizonte compõem uma bela imagem.

Não conheço Almodôvar conheço algumas terras em volta quando vou em trabalho , são umas aldeias muito bonita e bem calmas todas da mesma cor parecem uns labirintos por dentro , o céu negro ficou bem dramático deu um belo contraste , parabéns!!

Olá Francisco,
Brrr... Não sei porquê, estes dias de trovoada de Primavera são um bocado deprimentes para mim. E esta paisagem urbana tipicamente alentejana não ajuda nada, pois faz-me lembrar aqueles dias em que os miúdos tinham que ficar em casa por causa da chuva.
Embora ache estas aldeias e vilas brancas visualmente muito interessantes, não me parecem especialmente fotogénicas, pelo menos para panorâmicas como esta. Aqui acho que fizeste o melhor possível, usando mito bem a estrada, o cruzamento, a colocação da igreja e até o céu para fazer a compo.
Aquelas nuvens de trovoada estão muito bem captadas e a falta de luminosidade em baixo está muito realista.
Por causa desta foto, no outro dia estive tentado a fazer um desvio por Almodôvar quando no caminho de Montegordo, mas como não estava com muito tempo acabei por desistir.

I like the layered effect in the photo. The foreground leading to the houses with red/brown roofs and white sides. Above them clear sky and then storm clouds. The first photo of Almodôvar on TE turns out to be an excellent one as well.
