Photographer’s Note

I'm posting another Church of the Alentejo, just to make a break in my photos from Myanmar.
This is another simple church that I like a lot. It's situated in the countryside, several kilometres far from Estremoz, in the little Parish of Santo Estêvão.
It's devoted to Santo Estêvão and I guess no one knows exactly when it was really built, but it existed already in the 16th century. In the 19th century it has been rebuilt, we can still see the date (1896) written on the facade. The benches were used by the pilgrims who used to come to this place in the old days. The old bell is not there at this moment, as we can see here.

The base of the cross, like others in the region, is decorated with skulls sculpted on marble, the stone of this region (I've included a detail in the Ws).
