[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Another one from my "memory lane". Actually, the photos I shot on this occasion bring me much melancholy in a recursive way, as they remind me not only the particular event, but also the other similar ones that I lived in my childhood, which in turn, reminded and still remind me of my father, who died less than one month before this photo was shot.

Many of you may wonder about the tilt and the pink cast. I decided not correcting the tilt because I didn't like the effect on the compo of the inevitable crops that the correction implies. As for the pink cast, it is quite realistic, because it is provoked by the pink papers that filter the sun light.

I posted two WS's showing other decorated streets: 1, 2.

The rest of the note is copied from the note of my earlier post of this event, which seems to feature the other end of this street.

I grew up up in Campo Maior until I was 11 and although I practically lost contact with everyone I knew there, I remember very well the warmth kindness and lively joy of the people there. The main festivities of the place consist in decorating the streets with paper (mainly floral themes), turning the streets and all the town in a giant artificial luxuriant garden. This requires a lot of work, that is done by nearly everyone from the grandson to the grandma, spending every evening of many months cutting and stitching paper. Neighbours compete with each other to make their street more beautiful than the others and there is a jury to decide which ones are the best, but the competition doesn't involve money. No need to say that the town's only activities during the festival are all related with the party, as most of the streets are closed to cars. Crowds come to see this unique thing from all over Portugal and Spain and most of the streets get as crowded as big shops in Christmas time. I was lucky with this shot, as the street is almost empty.

The name of the festival used to be "Festas do Povo" (people's festival) or "Festas dos Artistas" (artists festival). As long as I know, strangely they have no relation with religion. Requiring so much hard work, it's no surprise that they have no fixed frequency - sometimes they happen every 7 years, other times they are more frequent, and there were times that they didn't happen for more than 10 years.

This splendour of this street is far from that of the more elaborate ones.

J.Pires,

My friend Jose,
Lovely image with wonderful colouration, the tilt does not bother me at all as you mentioned here but the colourful image with good displayed of light and shadows said it all as a good image presentation!
many thanks for the wonderful notes too
best regards
greeting from NZ
Tony

What a wonderful place in which to grow up; no wonder your childhood memories are special. The work involved in creating these decorations must be immense. I don't think I have ever seen anything quite like it before. I like the dappled light on the ground making a trail to follow. The vertical composition is definitely the correct choice. I enjoyed the other images too. well done

Ola Jose

Wonderful colour, with superb sharpness, lighting & pov. Well done!

Hola Jose

? " the washed tones" mas quanto a isso estamos conversados.
Um ab.
Rui

Olà José,

Very beautiful picture with the colours of the flowers and the white of the houses. Beautiful composition with the street wich turns.
Do trabalho bonito.
Até logo,

Hola Jose.
Felicitaciones.
Un fuerte abrazo.

Ola Jose
Tao perto e tao longe !...

Ola Jose,
nice shot of this decorated street with the name people's festival. It looks and seem interesting with the people to be drown the streets. The pink colours make it attractive and the empty streets allow us to see the depth of it.The two workshops complete the scene.Very informative your note.

Have a nice weekend,Danos

Hi Jose,
Interesting composition to introduce the beautiful festival, good pov to show the artistic decorations at the corner, thanks for sharing WS photos too.
Ally

Olá José,
you did a good job on scanning but also before and maybe later with PP. The curve of the street with the good details of the decoration is really pleasant and the light spots on the pavement lead us to the people in the background. A few inches more to the left to have this one complete, that would be my wish.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf
