O castelo de Marvão situa-se no mais alto pico da Serra de São Mamede, em pleno Parque Natural, a ocupação deste território pode remontar à pré-história. O castelo é afinal uma cidade fortaleza, já que a povoação está envolvida pela primeira linha de defesa ao longo do monte, conta depois com uma segunda linha com muralhas e torres e finalmente o castelo medieval, com duas torres e a Torre de Menagem. Nas dependências do castelo está instalado um museu arqueológico de armaria.
