Photographer’s Note
In the sequence of my last post....about Marvão...
a spectacular medieval walled village perched 900 metres high on a rocky crag.
In the X century Marvão was known by the name of "Monte de Amaia" and by the name of "Amaia of Ibn Maruán". Ibn Maruán, wich full name is "Abd ar-Rah.ma:n Ibn Marwa:n Ibn Yu:nus al-Jillí:qi" wivh means [Ab-derramão son of Marvão son of Iúnece - i.e. Johannes- the Galician] a noble muladi that became famous in the last quater of the IX century as a rebeld and warlord against the Cordova Emirate.
The fortess of Amaia was a refugy of the refounder of Badajoz when he felt threatnet there. And that happened in 884 when the soldiers of the Muhâmmad Emir threatned him to destroy the city and escape to its mount: MARVÂO
The reconquest to Portugal ocuured in 1160/1166 by the hand of the 1st King of Portugal - D. Afonso Henriques
It became a foral after a royal decision of his grandson in 1266 one of the first forals in the regions.

Hello Rui,
Interesting details in this ancient fortification!
This wall protecting against intruders is remarkably well preserved, and the church and village in the back adds interest value...
The composition has good lines and strong lead-in, the colours are well reproduced!

It must be wonderful to walk these ancient walls. While most people would be taking shots of the views you have made good use of the perspective to lead us right into the scene to the bell tower at the end.
