Photographer’s Note

Hi there,

Today I'm uploading a second picture from a place you have already seen before in my gallery. It's Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse.

This lighthouse is located in a very beautiful location with very interesting rock formations near Lagos, Algarve in Portugal.
It was on paper since 1883. In 1902, another comission nominated by the Navy Ministery proposed the instalation of a 6th order device. In the 30rd December 1911 it seemed that finally the lighthouse was going to be built in the place of an old chappel in ruins (Capela da Nossa Senhora da Piedade / Our Lady of Mercy chappel) sold by the church to the navy but, once again, it was a dificult task because the local parrish was against it.
Finnaly, on the 14th March of 1912 the chappel and some nearby buildings were in the possession of the Navy.
The Ponta da Piedade Lighthouse started is work in the 1st July 1913.
Initialy it was equiped with a 4th order rotation device showing 5 white flashes every 10 seconds. It used a Petrol lamp and the rotation was provided by a clockwork device.
The tower has 5 mts of height and is located at 51 mts of altitude.
The 4th order optic was temporarly replaced by a 6th order (steady white light) one in Mai 1923. In the 15th December the 6th order device was replaced and the light started to flash (2 1/2 seconds off and 4 seconds on).

The lighthouse was electrified in 1952 wich allowed a 15 mile range and later a 18 mile range.

In 1956 a new device was bought working with electricity but switching automaticly to gas if needed.

In 1983 it was automatized with a GISMAN model. Its electrical with simple flashes in a 7 seconds period and a range of 20 miles.

Hello Darek,
A fine point of view to capture this lighthouse; the eyes are directed up the paved road by the enclosing walls. It is well composed with excellent symmetry. I like the sky with the swirling clouds, which bring a particular mood to the image. Sharpness is superb.

Very dramatic sky. The white walls lead your eyes to the lighthouse. The texture of the walkway adds substance and interest to the photo.

Great perspective and a really excellent clarity. I'm striken by the colours which are so natural and yet so brilliant. I love th symmetry of the lighthouse and of the whole composition. A gorgious sky too.

Hi Dariusz,
I don't know which technique you use, but you often have an incredible sky on your photo, and this is the case here. The POV is excellent, with a great DOF. Excellent sharpness too.

Hi dariusz. A great perspective of that beautiful lighthouse. Your composition is very good and what could be the road leading to the lighthouse just seems to be part of it and looks great with perfect sharpness and very good details.
