Photographer's Note

The three pictures shown here were made in 2010, I decided to post them now when the 100 year anniversary of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three little shepherds in Fatima, Portugal is celebrated. The main picture shows the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, one of several buildings which are part of the Shrine of Fatima. It was consecrated in 1953 and visited by millions every year. A special interest to Hungarians is that there is a statue of Saint Stephen, King of Hungary inside this basilica. Another famous building of the shrine is the Chapel of the Apparitions, which is the “heart” of the shrine, located under the roof partially visible on the left side of the main picture. There are two pictures of this little chapel in the Workshop. It was built in 1919 on spot where the apparition occurred. The sculpture of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima in front of the chapel is a famous piece of art, it was blessed in 1920. In 2013 at the request of Pope Francis, the statue was taken to Rome for the Marian Day where it was was chosen as the most important representative icon of Marian devotion in the entire world for Catholics.
