[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
I did a post of this same lagoon and boat some months ago. Now I present another two different POV's - this post and this WS. You may look at the earlier post here.

The following lines are a transcript of the note of the other post.

This lagoon near the South East tip of Portugal is part of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa. The Atlantic ocean is just behind that strip of sand on the background, which is actually a narrow sand island more than 4 Km meters long. To the left of the image lies the charming old fishermen village of Cacela Velha.

There is a funny story behind this one: I couldn't start the engine of my car after a delicious lunch on the nearby restaurant, so I had to call the insurance company. That wasn't as easy as you could imagine, as the mobile phone coverage is very weak, so I had to climb to a higher place to make the call. It turned out that I was lucky in my mishap, as there I was with time to spend in that beautiful place and I had my camera with me. After an hour or so, we were already on a taxi on the way to pick a substitution car, when the man from the assistance phoned me telling that by mistake he had turned the key and the engine started. We got back and ended up coming home in the car. What did happen? Some bug in the anti theft software! Modern days hassles... :-)

19-Mar-2007 update: Following Ulf Untrained and John jwmunro suggestions, I made and posted a WS where I put the main boat less centred by cropping a bit the lower part.

Great story! Nice place to be forced to spend some time! What I like about this photo is that the horizon is almost perfectly straight which I notice rarely is in photos like this one where it stands out so significantly. I also like how the blue of the boat is just a couple of tones off the blue of the sky. Nice bright colours and great light. TFS,
Sarah

Hi Jose,
I like your composition here with the dividing line between the water and the beach. The boat and its colours are great, and the other boats in the background add good extra interest.

Olá José,
I remembered that story about your car. The brightness of this one is nice. Together with the strong colours it is for sure an impression of summer. Based on the rules of third a crop would be requested and for me it is a bit too much sharpness. My favourite is them smaller boat at the right with the water and light reflections on it.
Lieben Gruss, Ulf

Hi Jose.
Lovely colour and great simple composition. A really pleasing shot. Well done.
Regards, Steve.

Hi Jose,
What strikes me in this lovely composition is the natural looking colors - I appreciate that, as I am not fond of overly saturated ones. Pleasant positioning of the boat in your frame. Your car trouble was a blessing in disguise. Greetings! Danilo

Olá José!
Prefiro essa imagem mesmo, ficou mais "quente" e combina mais com o lugar! O tipo do terreno passa a falsa impressão de que a foto esta desalinhada, interessante!
Parabéns e Abraço!

CAn you remember what you did differently? Quite often you get this clearer more saturated-looking result from the right tweaking of the curves graph. Good work.
Well composed too where the shoreline comes in right from the corner.

Hello José,
very well captured and nicely framed shot, with very good perspective. The harsh light is well managed and the colours are spot on. I like the calm and serene atmosphere of the pic. Tfs and for the funny story staying behind this shot!
Attila

Hello Jose -

I looked at both images and there are things I like about both images. The main image - I do like your color balance a bit better especially the sand portion of the image. What I don't like about the main image is the composition - the main subject is off at a distance, there is a large featureless sky, and not a lot of interest elsewhere in the image, IMO. While the WS image is a tighter composition, and IMO much better, but as you said the color balance is a bit off but I do like the saturated colors of the boat. Both of these images are a center composition that, again IMO, are not working. Some selective cropping could resolve the composition issues on both images. Neither image is bad but they need work. Timing is also an issue here as the lighting is a very harsh. Under the high sun coupled with the featureless sky I would have worked the boat close in focusing on details, color, and the elimination of the sky. Just my 2-cents, Jose, for what it's worth.

Thank you for sharing

John

I like the compostion here Jose, the boat is placed perfectly to draw the eye in, especially with the great lead-in lines you have from the shoreline.
TFS. Leon.

Hi Jose,
Boat is beautiful with its good colour combination of blue and yellow. This time my wish is, you should have moved few steps more towards the boat so that the land will be less and the boat will be main highlight.
Good shot indeed. Thanks for sharing.

i liked the POV of the lagoon, indeed a good one.

Felicitaciones
John

Hello José,
A well composed image, with nicely saturated colors, good sharpness and a strange story behind that photo! Details are nicely sharpened and framing is pleasant..A tiny little bit of tilt to the left, but no big issue there! Thanks for the WS...
Cheers

Merhaba José, my friend...
It's a simple but beautiful composition, indeed... The tones of the orange-yellow and the blue, and the contrast between the these colors are perfect... Also perfect light and details...
TFS...
Stay well..

Hi Jose, lovey sea composition with a lovely boat, splendid light and nice delicate colors, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Hello Jose,

This one caught my eye as I was looking through your Portugal pictures. I am thinking of visiting your country in July and wanted a little inspiration.

I like your composition very much here, especially how you placed the intersection of the sand and water in the foreground on the diagonal of the frame. The saturated colors and details are well seen. I detect a slight tilt on the horizon but it does not distract.

Well done!

Regards,
Doug

Olá José,
Gosto mais desta que dos workshops. Gosto de ver aqui a grande quantidade de areia.
As cores e aparente secura fazem lembrar Cabo Verde.
Um abraço,
F

Hi Jose,
