Photographer’s Note

Third in a short series of pictures taken in the tiny republic of San Marino. They were captured on the way to a very enjoyable holiday in Umbria, Italy in July 2002.

Today, a view of the aerial tramway taken from the top of Monte Titano overlooking the roofs of Borgo Maggiore.

Some information from Wikipedea about the tramway:

The photograph shows the 1.5 kilometre aerial tramway that connects the city of San Marino on top of Monte Titano with the town Borgo Maggiore, the second town in the Republic of San Marino. For the visitor, the aerial tramway gives the best views of Borgo Maggiore, as the cars sweep low over the rooftops of the main town square. From here a connection is available to San Marino's largest settlement, Dogana, via the local bus service.

Two tramway cars, known as gondolas, and numbered '1' and '2', operate in opposite directions on a cable, and a service is provided at roughly fifteen minute intervals throughout the day. A third vehicle is available on the system, being a service car for the use of engineers maintaining the tramway.
