Photographer’s Note

This is a view showing the Guaita castle in San Marino overlooking the Rimini area in Italy far below, reaching as far as the Adriatic sea you can see in the background. I was blessed with superb clouds on that day and tried some variations on them, on this one it seems the castle is blowing them in the air.

The people having established the community now known as "Serenissima Repubblica de San Marino", the 3rd smallest country in Europe after the Vatican and Monaco, began to build fortifications on the Monte Titano as early as the X th century and the Guaita Fortress you see here is the most ancient dating from the XI th century. It is part of a network of three castles (Guaita, Cesta, Montale) that was all in place in the XIII th century. Interestingly the administrative division in San Marino is called a "Castello".
