Cathedral of St. Elisabeth

The dominant of the square and the town of Košice is the monumental Gothic St Elisabeth Minster. This building, rather isolated from the rest of the square, is the largest church of Slovakia and the easternmost situated Gothic cathedral of western type in Europe.
Its longitudinal axis is 60.5 m and its transversal axis is 39.5 m long. The northern tower of the dome is 58.5 m tall. Construction of the church proceeded under the royal supervision in several stages from 1380 while some assert that it is still not finished. Originally, the church was designed as a five-nave basilica. Under the pressure of natural disasters and wars the resulting form was different; it became the five-nave dome with crossed nave.
In spite of adjustments in new styles after fires and earthquakes in the 19th century the Cathedral of Košice preserved numerous original Gothic elements and valuable artistic features. They include, for example, the wonderful northern portal with the tympanum representing the Last Judgement.
The medieval gargoyle in the south-western corner of the church is also interesting. It is supposed that it has a form of woman, in particular the wife of the famous royal constructor Stephan. This is how he allegedly punished his wife for drinking too much wine.
Special attention must be paid to the main altar of St Elisabeth built in the years 1474-1477. It contains the largest European set of 48 Gothic table paintings. Dutch and German influence on the sculptures and paintings is obvious. Liturgical objects include the most valuable works of important goldsmith J. Szilassy from the 18th century, which are classified as the national cultural monument.

This cathedral is just as spectacular inside as out!! A very nice picture with perfect lighting and detail. Excellent pov. TFS and have a great day!

Hello George,
In spite of a little over-exposure very difficult to avoid in a church, the image is spectacular and descriptive. You highlighted with brilliance, the complexity and the drawing of the vaults, very high and impressive. Congratulations.
Have a nice day

Hi George,
Wide angle vertical shot fits well with this tall gothic church. Ardhes are well presented. Bright light coming through windows adds divine feeling.

Hello George,
A very good capture of these soaring gothic arches. The light is managed reasonably well in obviously difficult circumstances. Thus, despite the inevitable over-exposure in the area of the windows the detail of the architectural is very well captured.

George,
Amazing perspective here !
I like a lot how you composed with geometrics, nice job,
Regards,
JB.

Hi George,
Excellent colour and light, great composition. nice geometry and perspective.
Georg

Szia George,
a wonderful POV to include the ceiling parts and give them good light. The background is very hot and it must have been difficult to find any balance.

Bonjour George,
des lumières difficiles qui finisssent en surexposition.
Il fallait à mon avis un peu sous-exposer l'ensemble.
Belle idée de grandeur avec ce cadrage et de POV.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hello George,

High and spectacular with this wonderful ceiling.
Very well composition George, maybe one small tip, beneath see we a little bit overexposure above the altar, with a tool of photo shop can you this totally solve.
But I like your picture.

have a nice sunday,
John.

Hi George, fantastic perspective and splendid light, great view of superb architecture, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Hi George, I am aware people are mentioning the word overexposed, however I call it strong light, this & the stunning golden colours create a lovely picture, the roof is a gorgeous piece of art & the vertical composition works wonderfully well, TFS, kind regards Wilson.

Hello George,

Gothic churches are beautiful. Their high arched celings give so much space inside. Excellent perspective of this interior. The warm colours add a more pleasnt view of the structure and details. Good work George.

Roberto

Ola Georg,
Lindo o interior desta Catedral com o tecto em estilo gótico , tem uma altura imensa , bons detalhes, parabéns!!!
Um abraço Gonçalo

Hi George, this is a nice one too. Although the bottom of the frame is far too bright, the rest is well exposed. Why not try a grad layer to fix the different exposure results in PS? The framing is good and the details sharp and clean.
