Photographer’s Note
I didn't miss all the april afterall.
This capture was taken on april sunday afternoon, when I decided to leave all my problems behind me and just enjoy the fresh smell of spring. We were driving through Notranjska region and stop for this wonderful play of light and shadows. I decided to post this one cause it is special for me. Standing here on this hill and watching clouds rushing by and creating from second to second completely different scenery made me happy, happy after a long time. Not always we need complicated motives with meaningfull symbolism, sometimes just the feeling is that counts.
What to say about this region? It is marvelous as all other slovenian regions, each and every one with its own characteristics. You can see some other impressions of this one in previous shots in my gallery. I like it for wonderful mixture of all season and completely new greenery, for wonderful mixture of illuminated and shadowed areas, for water finding its way through grass fields as an announcement we are getting close to Karst region, known for unique topography, its subterranean drainage, where soils may be fertile enough and rainfall may be adequate, but rainwater quicly moves through the crevices into the ground, sometimes leaving the surface soil parched between rains. This capture is taken after straight 14 day of rain.
Close up of this capture can be seen in WS. I'm still getting familiar with my new Nikon 18-200mm lens or more accurately 18-145mm lens. Yes, we did series of comparison of different images and Nikon lenses and the result was always the same. 145mm is maximum zoom (we have two of them, both with the same result). This was and still is a great dissappointment for me and I'm quite frustrated about series of reviews regarding this lens. There were many about Sigma critisazing the same problem, not one with Nikon. But it is still great lens and it covers my needs at its best. But I would not mind owning one day 10-400mm lens :P.
*****
Please excuse the lack of my comments for your many wonderful captures, I'll try to give them some more attentions when I get better and thank all of you expressing your concern regarding my absence. I'm experiencing some difficult times but I'm trying to keep my spirits high. Thank you for all your support.

Hi Jeri,
Wow, what a great light plays there. Your clever usage of panoramic view increase the feeling of horizontal line between dark and light parts. Perfect clarity in natural color and sharpness are makes your frame a unique one full with greens. Great addition of blossomed trees are wonderful. Congratulations.

Dear Jeri,
of course a beautiful and touching picture of the excellent view. the green under this lighting is especially comfortable.
but the central wide border line is firstly impressive, far and away the most to me.
and all the contrast and the boundary between all the light and shadow of the tree, the wood, the stream and the field in this image make me feel deep exclamation.
how and why "the light and shadow" is so impressive?
all the view images are on our feeling space that is the overlap of objective world and inner mind extent. and I think the human is always walking on the narrow limits of those two opposite (positive and negative, or northern and southern) poles. so the dividing line means lots and suggests many in your mind and the viewer's spirits. that may be one lead of the problem or not...
the image is always beyond the words, but in our spiritual sensations.
thank you,
Akihisa

Hi Jeri.
I like both shots,WS and original, this one shows the whole landscape, with the river, with lights and shades(as our own life..),all this enveloped for the shining green(as the hope..).I like the WS for the close up over a clearing in the landscape;relaxing.Problems sometimes are similar,we should close-up in a clear zone and open slowly the angle of vision..
I know sometimes the words can't give us wings, but I hope the beauty(even you must look for it a lot...)from nature, from world, from those kind of landscape..,could keep your spirits(and spirit) high.
Best wishes,
Sonsoles.

ciao Jeri,
this is a beautiful shot of a marvellous green landscape of spring. I'm happy to see you again on TE. I have read your note and I'm sorry you are crossing a difficult moment. But the difficult moments in the life are always and they are exceeded with a little of optimism and the confidence in itself same. Be happy! You are a splendid person, how is understood by the cure and by attention that you put in your photos and in the thoughts that you write.

Dear Jeri,
So nice to see a picture from you and such a lovely one, full of spring mood and lush greens, you indeed had a great light here, the whole gives out such a peacefulness, I can almost smell that grass...
Sorry to hear you are still having a difficult time, and also a bit disappointed about the lens...keep you ears up, the wind will turn as we say here, and easier, happier moments find their place.
Thinking of you and sending you lots of good vibes!

Hi Jeri,
It was a pleasant surprise to see your new post. I had originally thought you were going away on vacation, but sadly, I learned from your note that it was for a different reason. Keep your spirits up during these difficult times. I wish for you a full and speedy recovery.
I associate springtime with green, so I find this photo very appropriate for spring. Even though 800 pixels seems too small for a photo like this, you have managed to show the delightful play of light and shadows and evoke the smell of spring. The workshop shows a lot more detail and does better justice to the scene.
I think that this photo, like your other photos, speaks from the heart. Welcome back!
Warm regards,

Hello Jeri,
Good to see you back with this very nice spring shot. I like the strongly saturated green tones, the play of light and shadow in the valley and the position of the cherry(?) tree in the left-hand corner. The strong movement of diagonal and horizontal lines through the frame (particularly the glistening stream in the valley) works very well with the panoramic format.
Hope you’re feeling better soon.
Take care,
John

Dober večer Jeri,
I am so happy to look at these new photos on your gallery.
I am sorry, I had not understood that you crossed a sad period. I hope that you are going better now. These photos show your enjoyment to find the spring and the beauty of the nature. I hope that it can help you. For me, what is beautiful is always a help. It is necessary to try to cling to any little gifts which bring a little of enjoyment, the nature gives it a lot.
These shots both are magnificent (I have a preference for the WS and its fantastic light and the mixture of trees) but this one is very beautiful also.

Hello Jeri,
What a fabulous panoramic view of nature showing off in April. I can see how you felt, leaving your other concerns behind and communing with nature, so to speak. The horizontal framing at the top and bottom accentuates the panoramic aspect of the scene, especially since you've managed to keep the foreground quite dark.
Warm regards, Jeri, have a good weekend.

Lej, lej Jeri,
Če pretiravam in tvegam: srečno povečanje familje.

hi Jeri,
it's almost sad to look at this spring photo, the weather is already turning colder, the days are gray and summer is gone until next year. sure, we still have the autumn colours to look forward to, but I guess I'd prefer the warmth of the summer :)
but back to the photo - love the lush green and how the sunlight seems to glide along the treetops, that's the essence of the spring, at least as far as I'm concerned. the silvery stream in the foreground is a nice accent, I bet this photo would look really great printed in large format :))
take care,

zdravo Jeri
you don't mind me going back to this picture, do you? the matter of fact is: today's it's raining cats and dogs here. actually, not cats and dogs but ICE... the street is a skating rink and even though technically it's daylight: it's pitch dark... so... APRIL is what I need right now. lots of it and the green it offers in slovenia (april can still be pretty nasty in latvia and in north-eastern states). your photo is a wonderful escape for me now ;)) thank you.
technical: hmm, the leaves seem to be reflecting the sunlight strongly. i'd suggest a polarizing filter for this one: the way it is now (the leaves serving as an extra light source), the light is very difficult making it hard to expose the whole scene correcly. polarizing filter might have fixed that and made the green more saturated (closer to what you see in the shadow).
cheers,
kristaps
