‘Maribor - Main Bridge to Maribor’
Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia, is at the same time a very pleasantly and small place.
The old town is located at the river Drava and from the southern bank one has nice views on the buildings of the city center. On the picture you see a part of the beautiful Main Bridge and a glimpse of the houses on the northern bank.
It wasn’t easy to post an new view on this bridge. In the past several great pictures of it have already been posted by Aires dos Santos. So I dedicate this picture to Aires.
Something special about Maribor from www.maribor-tourism.si :
Here you can find the oldest vine in the world, the oldest living specimen on the planet of a noble grape vine that still bears grapes!
• With an age of over 400 years it is registered in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest vine in the world.
• It symbolises the rich wine culture of Maribor, Štajerska and Slovenia.
• Its scions grow on almost all continents and in numerous places in Slovenia.
• Its grape, the sort Žametovka is one of the oldest domesticated noble wine sorts in Slovenia.
• The 35 to 55 kg symbolic annual grape harvest is bottled in 2,5 dcl glass bottles, designed by the famous artist Oskar Kogoj, that represent a precious protocol gift - annually more than 100 bottles are filled.
• Its wine matures in Maribor's wine underworld, in Vinag's wine cellar, which is one of the largest and oldest classic wine cellars in Europe.
• It is the starting point for 3 wine roads and wine –cultural trails of Archduke Johann, which intertwine over the hilly, wine growing surroundings where there are lots of wine shops and tourist farms with excellent white sorts and Štajerska delights.
• Throughout the year, in honour of the vine, a cycle of events unwind From Vine to Wine, the ceremonious Pruning of the Old Vine in the early spring, with the bestowal of scions to selected cities to St Martin's Day.
• Ceremonial grape harvest of the Old Vine is the highlight of the Old Vine Festival that shows the rich wine, as well as fruit, culinary and ethnological culture of Štajerska.
• The vine grows in Lent, the oldest part of the town down by the river Drava; on the frontage of the Old Vine House, a temple of wine traditions and culture, an exhibition-event room and a tourist information centre. Stroll along the banks of the river Drava to the queen of all vines!

Although the image is all about the bridge I also like the way you have used it to frame the view of the city. The depth and focus are good with the bridge and houses both sharp. The reflections are also an important and attractive part of the composition.

Hello Paul,
Amazing geometry!
The shapes and lines are stunning as the point f view really gets the most out of the subject...
The reflection is a fine bonus, and the arch serves well as framing for the view to the town!

Hello Paul -
I am not very big on bridge images but this one works because you focused on a smaller portion of the bridge and worked the colorful buildings of the town and the reflections into the scene. The arch and the reflection of the arch really focus the viewers attention on the village and the details. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Dag Paul,
U wist deze brug op een zeer originele wijze te foto graferen, mooi in de ronding van de metalen constructie.
Een type brug zoals er ook in België enkele zijn gemaakt in de jaren 50.
Pachtige presentatie uit deze hoek genomen. Bedankt.
Groeten,
John.

Hey Paul,
That`s a nice view of the main bridge over the Drava. It`s a nice steel construction and works well on most photos I`ve seen. Love the structures in the background (Lent).
Have to go there more often.
Best regards.

Hello Paul, Being a lover of the fermented grape juice (;-))I would have loved to have seen the oldest grape vine in the world but I think this makes for a much more interesting picture. Well composed with the reflection showing, the colour is super, excellent clarity. Lovely scene, well captured.
Thank you also for the very interesting and informative note.

Paul the lines of the bridge really attract my attention to this frame. What I would have suggested here would be a stronger graphical image by zooming in even closer and allow only the smooth arch of the bridge to fill the upper frame. If this is an evening shot I would like to see it in the morning. My desire is to see the lighting come from the opposite direction. Thanks for sharing....Paul

Hi Paul,
I really enjoy watching your shots from Slovenia. First of all because it looks very exotic for me, but they are all very informative and well done.
This composition is really fantastic. I wouldn't change a thing here. It is just perfect.
It reminds me of course the bridge from Porto (because I am still under impression of Portugal), but of course it is much smaller. Still beautifully presented here.

Namaste Paul,
great way to capture the nice bridge. The town is visible through the bridge arches. The composition is so nice that the bridge and its reflection gives it a graphical effect. Nice depth, that we can see clear the bridge and the houses of this town at a time. Light management is fantastic. Great job. Tfs.
Have a nice time.

Hello Paul
There are ample opportunities to photograph this bridge at many different POV and angles.
The cirular rings caught my attention right away, and i'm left wondering what this scene would look like at the same POV at night with the lights.
This is my type of subject, and it would have peeked my interest right away.
I like your creativity
Well done
Craig
