[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Just a few years ago, venturing inland from the Costa del Sol to the Sierras entailed miles of dusty unpaved or potholed roads which brought you to tiny isolated villages where time seemed to have stopped.

Even now, although the streets are paved (only 10 years ago), and most homes have all the conveniences of modern life, there are occasional vestiges of the old ways to be seen.

This is a lavanderia, a public laundry. Water diverted from a natural spring flows through troughs in this open building, not far from the centre of town. A few women still bring their clothes here to wash them in the traditional way.

There is enough room for a few dozen women to do their washing together, and one can imagine a noisy scene of gossip and banter on laundry days. But now, there is only one lonely woman, labouring away on this sunny Saturday spring morning. I wonder if she hears the echoes of the conversations these walls have heard over the years.

Adjustments made with histograms in PSP as the combination of deep shadow and bright sunlight was too much for the camera's automatic settings.

Great history for a great picture.
very nice the point of view, colorful, and with a good light.
thanks, ciao

Nice shot Geo.. I like the intimicy of the scene with you taking the shot on the other side of the window grid. I like how the light falls on the lady's back, it balances the very bright spot on the right.
I would have avoided to make a frame since the grid is not straight, adding other vertical lines makes it more obvious and a little annoying.

Good daily life picture, with interesting frame and quality of light.

very very well rendered shot, Peter!
composition is excellent, as well as colors. the contrast does not bother me at all.
beautiful note!

Hi Peter,
Interesting picture, seems like a jail from the outside, it is very interesting to see how in parts of Europe things remain so old style.
Regards
Daniel
