At the end of the Xth century, The Emirate of Cordoba had become wealthy and powerful. Abd al-Rahman III therefore decided to become independant from the Califate of Bagdad and proclaimed 929 Cordoba as a new independant Califate.
He then decided to build a brand new religious and administrative capital, Madinat al-Zahra, a couple of kilometers away from Cordoba.
945, Madinat al-Zahra was already a large town, with plenty of well decorated buildings.
You can see here the arches of the main room of the palace of Abd al-Rahman.
Unfortunately, his son prefered another location for his capital, east of Cordoba, and at the end of the XIth century was Madinat al-Zahra already deserted and vastly destroyed.
It is nowadays possible to visit the ruins, some of them being well conserved. You can see on the pavement parts of the mosaïcs that still have to be renovated. |

Hi Yannick!
Good symmetrical composition, deep colors. Good shot (and good note, too!). Thanks.
Vadim.
