ALHAMBRA
The Charles V Palace

The presence of a renaissance palace in the heart of the Alhambra, "... like a meteorite stuck in by chance", in the words of Manfredo Tafuri, never fails to surprise by its radical and almost arrogant rupture with the pre-existing architecture and surroundings.

To understand the palace it should be looked at not so much as a mansion in a strict sense, but rather as an expression of Empire; reflecting triumphant universal order and Christian unity, personified by Charles V, who chose the site for its symbolism as the last Islamic stronghold in the West.

Excellent picture. I like the symmetry of the scene. It emphasize the importance of the place.

A well framed shot, Robert, with the four main pillars in the foreground. I like the way the light comes from the 'oval' top and the doorway. Nicely timed, with the people also standing in the doorway. Stunning architecture. Well done.

Hi Robert
I'll be there, and therefore know this palace is difficult to photograph.
You did it perfectly.
Great shot
Guy

Very well composed image of this difficult to capture shot.
You have managed to do something I thought impossible - make this ugly building (in my eyes and when compared to the rest of the Alhambra area) look attractive :)

This is a nice picture, because of the interersting way you was able to show its round structure. Also a success because of the light that allows a very nice blue sky, without giving too much darkness to the walls.
Well done,
Yannick

Robert!
Very good composition with great light and details. The light in the gate and the tourists are making this scenery more interesting and beautiful. Very well seen and done
best regards

Hi Robert. A shot not easy to realize. Good POV, angle and crop. The moment is also well chosen which leads in a softer lighting. Very informative note too, very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

...and this photo is very interest for me! I like it because it has structure similar to NLO. That is because of angle of photographing and simmety in composition.
You know my way: I would distort colour of the sky to get unreal photo from other galaxy... I know!..."This is TE not TL, there is tripoid photos are prohibited..."
But, what can I do!? I'm not a photographer, I am an Artist! :-)))

Hi Robert, very nice perspective and composition, I like how the columns works like a frame and at the same time invite the eye beyond them and towards the court and the opposite part of the structure. I also like the contrast between the blue sky and the shadowy court. Well done!

The beauty the composition with behaviour of symmetry, the beautiful colors. I congratulate

I have seen photos of this from the outside and how strange it looks on the overall Alhambra. But on the inside here it looks very nice, at least with how you present it to us. The wide feel is perfect and your symmetrical point of view captures the circle of the plan perfectly in a dynamic way that brings the eyes all the way around. It even makes me think of something much more modern, particle accelerators and their broad circles. I like the plain sky here and how it matches the simplicity of the image. Nicely done.

Great photo Robert - and your whole series on Spain is wonderful. Not only have you posted some great photos, but you've also posted some incredible notes that have been very interesting, and I've learned a lot. This is what Trek Earth is all about. Well done!

Hey Rob, another on your Alhambra series I had to comment on, when I went recently there was a music festival that they were preparing for, so there was an ugly stage being built in the middle of this area!

I love the detail you have captured, looks like a bull fighting ring, also the symetry in your photo is a welcome addition!
