ALHAMBRA
The Charles V Palace
- continued

... The treatment of the walls with rusticated pillow-shaped stones, the round windows of the mezzanine and the elegant pedimented windows of the upper storey all clearly evoke the Italian architecture of the circle of Raphael.

Museums and Exhibition Rooms in the Palace
There are two museums and a permanent Introductory Exhibition to the Alhambra within the Palace of Charles V which complete the visit for those who wish to know more about the monument:

The Alhambra Museum:
This was founded in 1942 as the Museo Arcqueologico, the name being changed in 1962 to Museo Nacional de Arte Hispano-Musulman and changed yet again in 1992 to the present one, when its administration passed to the Patronato de la Alhambra. It contains the best collection in the world of Nasrid art.

The Fine Arts Museum:
This is in the upper floors of the palace. The basis of this collection are the objects confiscated with the suppression of church property in the last century. Central to the collection are the Granadine paintings and sculptures of the 16th - 20th centuries, particulary those of the so-called 'Granadine School'.

Robi, excellent detail again. The light coming from the left creates beautiful shadows and a nice shine on the metal ring. Good work.

Excellent details. This is my type of photo. The colors and contrast work very well together. This is a very nice photo.

Hi Robi! This photo I like more than the last. Perfect structure of simple composition, and good detail!

interesting door handle, I like the way you took this, very good details too, but I think you could have shown how big it was by stepping back a bit r something

well done though

Again another fine detail captured here - the marks in the stone and the verdigris on the bronze is striking :)

BTW - I was wondering if you had captured any of these - I remember seeing a number of them on the outside of the palace (Birds though) - I wonder what they were for (as they were set quite high)were they for decoration only or did they serves another purpose?

Hi Robert, very nice close-up and excellent light which brings out the fine details and the texture of the stone and the ring. Well done!

Hi Robi
I lately found a scene like this on a Dutch door. It was a doorknocker. I might consider it to post. Maybe in TL.
Your picture is very good: Sharp, good colours, good shadows and a great info.
groetjes Rob

robert,
it is a simple picture, but it has some magic, the contrast between the green and orange, and the shadows are just amazing,

I hadnt realised that you had been to the Alhambra also! I will have to look back over your past photos to see what images you captured from your trip.

It is a beautiful place, and you have captured the detail in this metal ring.

Do you actually know what they are for, I asked our tour guide what they were for and she said just for decoration.

I put forward the explination maybe they were used for tieing up horses like a horse park :P
