ALHAMBRA
El Generalife
Torre de Ismaíl

The name Generalife has been variously interpreted over its history, fron 'Garden' or 'Garden of the Zambra dancer', 'The highest of gardens' or 'house of craftsmanship' to Mansion of pleasure or great recreation' and 'Garden of the zither player'. Today the commonly accepted meaning is Garden or Jardines del Alarife, that is 'Gardens of the builder or architect'.

But what this has to do with the photo above? Well, as a part of the Generalife and Palacio del Generalife, there's the Torre de Ismail.
In commemoration of the victory of Nasrid troops over the Castilians in the battle of the Vega or of Sierra Elvira (1319), Ismaíl I (1314-1325) modified the original arrangement of the Sala Regia, adding on the principal axis a tower, with a room inside, which is similar to its sisters in the Alhambra. The inside of this tower, decorated with stucco, affords one of the best views of the Alhambra, the city, the Albaycín and the Sacromonte.
The epigraphy which appears on the panel above the triple-arch entrance, is a poem attributed to Ibn al Yayyab (1274-1349) which alludes to warriors of bygone times.

Dear friends,
this is the last photo in my series from Alhambra. There are so many other parts of this beautiful place that I haven't covered. Therefore, I'll be visiting again.
Thanks for all your comments and critiques during this time. There are other photos covering the same topic/place on TE; I hope I managed to show you a bit different Alhambra from what you're used to be seeing.
And... if you haven't been yet, I highly reccommend - the visit is worth every penny!

Very lovely light and atmosphere you captured at this image - I like specially the light spots and the fine details they reveils - thanks Robert - for this and the note to explain - too bad I never been here.

Hi Robert, I think the Generalife is about the best part of it. Inventive view of a much shot place. Tricky exposure here, clever keeping all the details in the shadows.

Hi Robert
I really like the way you have captured the sun light coming in. The detail is excllent.
Regards, Sarah

Great lighting effects on show here - makes the details even more vivid somehow :)

Hi Robi. Wonderful photo to conclude your Alhambra series. Exquisite framing to show not only another intricate detail from this place, but also to render the beautiful play of light as it breaks in through the rosette windows. Good work with the exposure, not an easy setting to get it right.

Wow! Who can resist to this light? That's very well caught, I like the patterns formed by the light, excellent details despite the low lighting. Very well managed lighting here indeed, congratulations. Thanks Robert, your Alhambra serie is really excellent. No doubt it brings a different and very interesting approach to this place. It was very well documented too, thank you for sharing.

When I saw the thumbnail of this I immediately saw a face in the image. And even in the large one I can still see a face of sorts. The two grilled windows remind me of eyes and the arch below it like a mouth out of alignment and the light like a mustache. Almost like some modern portrait. I like that fun interaction there. And I also really like the way you framed it to get a nice composition. This is one of those things that could easily be cropped in a bad spot making it seem odd but you did it well here. The surfaces are captured very impressively as is that light streaming through. It gives it a special feel. Well done.

Hi Robert, fantastic photo, excellent light. The patterns made by the projected sunlight create a nice and strange atmosphere, almost religious. This picture goes into my favorites. Well seen and captured!

Amazing light games on this incredible carving. Not easy to take pictures in this relative darkness but this one is pleasant and nicely detailed.

great picture, I like the light seeping through the window, very well shot indeed, I like it, great image

So simple, so powerfull, so beautiful light and shadows...; excellent work, Robert!

Lights very well captured, what an interesting effect ! Good idea, bravo.

Exceptionally beautiful! Very different than the more frequently seen stained glass photos.

I see that you have interest in art...that I find very awarding...
In this picture you menage to capture this light and to represent the place exactly as it is , mistical and beautiful...
