Patio de los Arrayanes, Alhambra, Granada

A few hours away from the tourist sun drenched Costa del Sol you cna find the city of Granada, ancient capital of Spain (before it was moved to Madrid of course) and a short distance from the city is the magnificent palace(s) of Alhambra.

Alhambra literally means the colour red, or so the tour guide told us, and the rocks around this region are red hence the name. Alhambra was built as a fortress by the muslims, and it eventually changed hands to the christians however the islamic beauty still remains. Part of the palace was destroyed however what remains as you can see is beautiful.

Very reminiscent of the Taj Mahal, however this was built nearly 300 years earlier and so cannot be said to be a copy!

I am sorry for the sketchy description, it's all I can remember from the tour!

I like the fact that the reflection was caught so well on camera, in actual fact using the naked eye the reflection was very poor and I was unsure if it would turn out.

I wanted to make my shot a little different to the others of this same scene but couldnt think of anything erally worth doing. This is the original, with only a slight rotation and crop.

I may post a drastic crop I have in the future as a WS but I am not sure if I like it or not!

Hope you like and find the description however sketchy informative. This is the first in a few shots from the Granada area of spain and I will hopefully be able to gather a little moer accurate information for my next posts.

Hello Mark,
Je ne pense pas qu'il y ait un rapport entre le Taj Mahal et l'Alhambra de Grenade. Toutefois ta photo révèle quelques similitudes...fortuites. La symétrie est parfaite et les reflets agrandissent le cadre.
Bravo
Dominique

Pity we see all this crowd, but I know the Alhambra and it's difficult to see no peope in this beautiful place. I love photos from the Alhambra and this one is very interesting. ravo for the reflections!
David

Hi Mark. Nice photo. Very good colours of the building and its reflection. The psople may be in the way, but may be hard to avoid. Just one person in the photo alone would have been nice. Nevertheless, great composition. Looking forward to more photos from Spain and the workshop. Thanks for posting this for us to see...

Nice vertical presentation mark, accentuate by the reflection, the symetry is excellent and light well manage, thanks for sharing.

Bonsoir Mark,
Philippe

Hi Mark,
You are back! Fantastic! So just some days ago, you were in Spain? Lucky you!

Nice photo. The reflection is very good. That thing in the water is a bit standing in the way, but not disturbing to me. The colours of the bottom are very deep and nice. The top is maybe a bit pale, but I am not sure. I will try a ws and I am am satisfied with it, I will post it. The composition is very good because of the symmetric shapes.

Hi Mark,
Great picture of this famous castle! The light is very good and the same can be said about the reflections in the water! I like you captured the group of tourists as well!
Well done! :-D
Groetjes,
Lars

Bonjour Mark,
J'apprécie votre humour et la comparaison est bienvenue.
L'intensité lumineuse a permis d'obtenir ces magnifiques reflets.
Une réussite,
Jean-Luc

What a composition, Mark! Nice feeling of perspective, here, and a stunning piece of moor architecture.
Great work!
Sergio

I like this one very much, Mark; the reflections are good, as well as the perspective. Good colours and sharpness, well done!
