I almost didnt post this because looking at other images on TE it is described as a cliche shot, easy to take, and every tourist who passes by will have exactly the same shot.

So why did I bother posting? Well basically as you can see its a bog standard shot which any point and shoot photographer could capture... so how could I have done it better? Obviously without being there you cannot know much about the place and what you cant from the photo you do not know about, but from this photo how would you make it more original?

Croping, adjusting colours etc, I think the biggest thing I need to work on is the imagination which goes into my shots, all too often I see the same as everyone else, I think I need to try to be a bit more original, any ideas?

Back to the photo, as you know I am not best pleased with it, as with a lot of my recent holiday snaps, a lot didnt turn out how I wanted :( But still its a learning experience!

This is the Patio de la Acequia which means Cort of the water channel, and is again in the Alhambra, more info can be found on my previous post about Alhambra.

Have you already seen my last ws I made?

For a holidayshot, it is quite nice. Yes, it is mabye a bit cliche... but not disturbing for me. Sometimes, cliches can be nice. Especially because the lines are very strong and the waterdrops very sparkling. The thing you could change a bit is warmify the colours a bit, because of the blue-green tones, it looks a bit like a cold day.

I know the feeling, sometimes a photo don't turn out very well... but on the other hand, I sometimes also experience that ordinary shot turnes out much better than I expected, so sometimes it is the other way around.

About inspiration: just look around and take a lot of shots. If I take 200 shots, there are always 2 or 3 very good. Also try other subject, or strange pov's, or surf a bit on TE. I am sure it will work out!

a nice shot i like the look of this, obviously not as common as you are degrading it to be, as i have never seen it before, i think i would have liked this shot from the level that the fountains are, looking straight through them, instead of over the top of them, it is an interesting shot, i look forward to seeing more pics in the near future!

Hi Mark,
nice to see you again, it's been a while !
So you've been travelling, good choice as Andalucia is a very beautiful region to visit. Of course, as you write it's difficult to escape the cliche shot when visiting such places, but at least this cliche is YOURS ! The perspective is nice and I like the refreshing water drops (today 34° here !). It seems the sun was striking hard in Granada too and your photo gets a bit pale as a result, to reduce this you might want to push a (little) bit contrast and saturation.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hi Mark - there is nothing wrong with a cliche shot as long as its done well as it is here. I took a similar one in april from the same spot, only I sat down on the cold damp floor and had the water drops covering the building.

I apologize in advance if I offend other people. Mark, you must take your picture based on what you feel you should take. Not take pictures for TE or TL. If you think your photo is nice upload it .

This photo is nice with a good POV. The pool/fountain perspective leads you directly to an open door at the back. It is a classic Spanish Style of architecture so is the landscaping. A lot of modern landscaping is still patterned after this. Even the Famous architect Louis Kahn took this idea for his Salk Laboratory in La jolla, California.

Good classic shot. When I visited there there was scaffolding all in from of the building. Whilst the light is great in Spain you do sometimes wish for a bit of cloud!
