| [Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe |
This was taken at the Nasrid Palace in the Alhambra, Granada. This palace is one of the most beautiful legacies of the Moorish occupation of southern Spain during the 7th to the 15th centuries.
The greatest challenge I faced in taking this shot (crowds being beyond my control) was selecting an area that would have the correct exposure and sharpness. Tripods and flash were prohibited.
You can tell which one I finally selected. The ceilings are made up of finely molded plaster and in the afternoon light they are translucent.
My selection of which area to expose also meant that the outdoor courtyard (which is obstructed by the crowd) would end up blindingly white. It was a blessing in disguise because you could see the rim lighting on the silhouettes of the viewers, giving the scene a 3-dimensional effect. |
