Que pocha cosa

This picture was shot during a visit to the Spanish town of Ayamonte . The city is located in the south-west corner of Andalusia, in Huelva county. It’s on the banks of the Guadiana River.

After crossing the Guadiana by ferry from Portuguese Villa Real de San Antonio we had lunch on the terrace of a tapas bar (what a treat these tapas are ;-) adjacent to the Nuestra Señora De Las Angustias church and walked uphill to the residential quarters of the city. They were mostly deserted. The only persons we saw there were some workers carting cement to a building site and this old lady tending to some household chores. She looked a bit strained doing menial work in her traditional looking outfit and was surrounded by strong graphic forms. I just had to frame this scene and I believe she didn’t object me doing it.... but was a little surprised.

Que pocha cosa (es la vida) is a song from the Spanish latin-rock outfit ‘Café Quijano’ from their 2001 ‘La Taberna del Budah‘ album

PCS tech: corrected for perspective distortion, heavily cropped; contrast, curves & saturation adjusted; altered the exposure of assorted elements; USM-ed; frame added and saved for the web.

Hi, Bert,
Nice shot here. This lady has a dignity about her that I like very much. Great compo and thanks for a good note, too.
Best,
Matt

nice composition. I like the street going down, the colors and the expression on the woman's face. she must be wondering why you're taking a picture of her. nice light on the wall in the background. the buildings of this street look very pretty.
Vanessa

Nice picture and impressive technical record (is it automatic?). However, I think you might avoid the trafic sign and the sunlight. They do not add much and are rather distracting.

I think the light and the colors make this picture, special thanks to the matching blue. Expression is good too.

Oh yes, great daily life shot, and what an expression, she looks as thought she thinks you're mad :-)

Hello Bert,
Very good and funny composition with that woman like a italian mama ;o
I like it a lot.
Perfect!
Alexandre

A shot about nothing almost, and it's a great one. Wonderful composition, up to that sign, left corner, the slope of the street espoused by the building walls add a sort of 3-dimensional depth to the shot, and you made all these colors play so well between each other. Really cool, and masterly, Bert. You know what you're doing.

Goedemiddag Bert,
Goed werk Bert in Spanje!
John.

Nice surprising scene indeed:-))
Nice combination of the two walls, the colours and even here the traffic-sign is funny, however I don't like them in a picture.
Great pic, Bert !

Excellent capture, Bert, of this daily life situation. The woman's expression is priceless. I also like the arrow, the sunlight on the back wall and the yellow of the side wall. Well seen.

She seems to be a bit surprised as to why you would take a photo of her, but I'm glad you did as it is a sympathetic daily life moment, Bert. I do not agree with oranges that the traffic light and the sun add nothing here, in fact I have the exactly opposite opinion and like both details quite a bit. The declining angle of the road helps to pull the viewer further into the scene. Nice one.

Hai Bert,

prachtig plaatje.
groet Rob

Hi Bert, lovely catch, she looks as if she has never seen a camera before. The funny thing is that she seems so big, but it's the perspective, I guess, behind het it's going down quite steep.
Nice light, nice colors and nice lines. Well done and seen, Bert as always.

gr. Jaap

Dag Bert!
A nice daily life scene in beautiful colors!
Good compo with beautiful lines in it.The lightspot on the wall in the background is a fine detail!
Well done!

what a great face expression!! beautiful colors and very nice composition, nice work Bert

Erg leuke foto!

from your Spain last series this is the one i like the most. composition, light, colors... a daily life shot but full of elegance :))

Bonsoir Bert.
Bravo

Like a Velasquez, you acts in this pictures, betrayed by the woman´s look. I like this: presence/absence game.
Very well balanced picture. Lovely colors.
Cheers,
Carmem

Buen tiro y excelente momento.
