This post inspired from HD462's post of a Parrot I am having a photo drought and so am havnig to have to revisit some old themes to gt photos to post.

I wasnt best pleased with this one, most of all because the sky looks too over exposed and the rest of the photo looks a bit dull. i think I should maybe have used the flash, but I didnt want to scare the little fella!

On the other side of those bushes is a parrot show which we were watching at a nature park in Benalmadena Spain, I forget the name for the moment, but you could also see dolphins and sea lions, and also penguins! (Which may be a future post).


The poor guy was chained up to stop him flying away, and I toyed with cloning the padlock out but decided to leave it in to enhance the title. Reminds me of seeing prisoners on TV where they are all chained together doing work at the roadside.

I am unsure what type of parrot he is, unfortunately I didnt think i woudl be posting this photo so I didnt make a note of his type! I seem to remember the man saying that this one and his different coloured cousins were from Australia though, I would be grateful if any bird lovers coudl confirm! : )

Im not really aware of how I could have made thos photo better apart from the obvious of using flash and under exposing the sky, any maybe changing angle, but I couldnt really get anywhere else. i have a few shots and decided on this one because on cue he ruffled his feathers (you cna see the ruffles on his head) and it was funny to watch. I will post how he lokos normally to WS.

Good cutey shot Mark, looks like a punk rock parrot with his plume all ruffed up....lol I think it might be a Macaw, does that sound familiar?

Hi Mark,
I think you've captured this parrot very nicely. I like how you can see his details and colours. As you say, the overexposed sky is a pity, but it doesn't matter in this shot, I think. So well done! :-)

Don't be TOO harsh for yourself. Okay, the sky is a bit white, but the rest of the colours are pretty good, maybe a shame that the light didn't came from the other direction, but the green tones of the leafes compensate a lot. Moreover, it is always hard to take photos of animals in a zoo or parc. The sharpness and composition are good here.

Magnifique ce perroquet...on dirait qu'il va parler.
Le fond est un peu surexposé mais cela ne gène pas car le sujet principal est bien net avec de superbes couleurs.

Hi Mark,
Nice shot you have taken. This is a Scarlet Macaw, native to Central and South America. There are also other types of macaws, also with beautiful colours, such as gold and blue.
It's sad to see this cute parrot chained up like that with a lock on his foot. You've chosen an appropriate title. Even though it was a difficult shot to capture, with poor lighting, you still have managed to bring out those wonderful colours, especially in the parrot's feathers. Well done!
