THE CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF REDEMPTION

Built in the 18 Century, the church was originally a tertiary Franciscan monastery. The entrance combines iconographic, Marian, Franciscan and colonial elements.

From the clouds and rain of Alsace, I thought it’d be a nice change to dig into my archives for a photo taken during the Andalusian summer. In Estepona it only rains about 40 days a year. There aren’t cars parked in front of the buildings either ;-)



Des nuages et pluie d’Alsace, j’ai pensé que ce serait bienvenu de chercher dans mes archives une photo prise durant l’été andalouse. A Estepona, il n’y pleut que 40 jours par an. Il n’y a pas de voitures stationnées devant les bâtiments non plus ;-)



IGLESIA DE LOS REMEDIOS (s.XVIII) (Antiguamente el convento de San Francisco).

El origen de esta iglesia está en una leyenda. Dice esta leyenda que en 1400 esto era un bosque lleno de pinos, entonces los vecinos de Estepona, encontraron un crucifijo, que atribuyeron a los primeros cristianos, aquellos que vivían durante la época musulmana. Construyeron una ermita en el lugar en el que había encontrado el crucifijo con los mismos árboles que se tuvieron que talar para dejar un espacio libre para su edificación. Se llamaba Cristo de la Veracruz y el barrio donde se fueron construyendo casas, se llamaba también del mismo nombre. Junto a la ermita fundaron un hospicio “de la Purísima Concepción de Santa Ana”. Entre los años 1725 y 1766 empezó a conocerlo como convento (de San Francisco) debido a los Padres Franciscanos de la Orden Terciaria. Vinieron de Alcalá la Real y se llamaba así hasta 1889 cuando se traslada la Iglesia de los Remedios de la Plaza del Reloj a este lugar, debido al estado ruinoso en que se encontraba la antigua iglesia.

Hi Nikki,
What a bright sunny picture, with great colours, full of detail and great depth.
The white is not overexposed, which is an extra point.

Hi Nikki , don't know if writing in spanish or english . I love that picture that represents the essence of many of Andalusia villages , mainly the blue solid sky , geraniums , gratings and the fantastic colours in albero , white washed walls . You accomplished a good effect with a very nive depth of field and a perfect composition with the church tower in the medium but i have the doubt of if you added a bit touch of saturation to the colours . La ruelle etroite mêne le regard vers cette joli eglise. une composition très bien faite et equilibrée, des belles couleurs pleines de soleil très sympa..

TRes belle image. C'est tres étonnant ce clocher qui a fait une rotation de 45 degré par rapport à la ruelle. Cet aspect est graphique et tres intéressant. J'aime beaucoup la lumière et les couleurs. De quoi se consoler d'un ciel nuageux.

Great shot Nikki! I love those tight Spanish streets and old buildings. I've just came back from Mallorca, I really miss them. Merci beaucoup pour quelque mots en francaise ;). Great photo, nothing to add.

Nice colors and composition....i love the deep blue of the sky!!

Bien exposé et jolies couleurs, je craque toujours devant un jaune et bleu.
La compo centrée fonctionne bien ici.
Par contre un petit passant ne me dérangerait pas.

Trop drôle cette photo Nikki, j'ai vraiment l'impression de voir une espèce de "remake" de celle que Jean-Yves à postée hier, avec des couleurs chaudes! ;o)
Au moins sur la tienne, il n'y a aucun doute possible: il faut chaud! J'aime bien ce cadrage avec la rue qui est prolongée par ce clocher. Les couleurs, comme d'habitude, sont saturées à souhaite... c'était vraiment pas brumeux ce jour là! :o))

Excellent exposure of white -- it's perfectly bright, but not overexposed. The sharpnes and clarity of the tower is stunning. Very well done.

Nikki, une photo qui accroche par le beau ciel bleu qui saute tout de suite aux yeux puis cette perspective de la ruelle qui amène le regard sur le clocher et enfin la lumière de l'Espagne qui baigne l'ensemble.

Salut Nikki,
La vue menant vers la tour de l'eglise est sympa et les couleurs sont plutot eclatante, le mur de droite nous laisse supposer que ca cogne sans pour autant etre crame, pour rebondir sur le commentaire de Pascal, ben les passants a cette heure ci ils sont pas fous comme les touristes, ils font la sieste, eux...
Je trouve le scan excellent, surtout quand je regarde les details des briques dans la partie mediane de la tour, tu utilises quoi comme scanner ?

Hi Nikki,
As others have noted, your compo is brilliantly lighted, perfectly exposed and well-framed. What a great antidote for April showers. Here in OB we have 'June Gloom' with daily low coastal overcast, which I personally love because it keeps things cool, but then I'm not light sensitive like those with SAD.

Wow, the colors in this one are rather stunning, and I also like how you used the textured wall of the building at the left to build a strong perspective effect that draws the viewer's eye towards the church tower in the center. Looks like a charming place to visit, or even to live, considering the 40 days of rain per year :o). Nice shot.

au fait, tu y as mangé aussi du poisson ?

Hi Nikki - I love the vibrant colours and the semisymmetrical perspective, very quaint and charming street below, perhaps the tower looks overrestored but so much more appealing than Torremolinos.
