Photographer’s Note

Part of the complex altarpiece in the church of Santa Maria la mayor, in the Andalucian town of Ronda. The church was built on the site of a mosque, after the Christians conquered the Muslims who had live here for hundreds of years. Like many Spanish churches, it is dark and spooky inside, but is full of ornate decoration.

I underexposed this photo to stop the brightest parts from burning out, then used a contrast mask in Photoshop to lighten up the darker areas in the background.
