Photographer's Note

This is a picture of the roof of the famous Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar. It is a very unusual design, it has four bell towers, one large dome and numerous smaller domes, all decorated with colourful tiles. Thousands of the faithful travel here annually to pay homage to the tiny statue of the Virgin on a Pillar inside the church. It depicts Our Lady as she appeared, according to legend, to St. James and asked him to build the church here on the banks of the Ebro river. This basilica is also a co-cathedral of the city Zaragoza alongside the nearby La Seo Cathedral. The architecture is of baroque style, and the present building was predominantly built between 1681 and 1872.
In the Workshop there is an overview picture of this church from bridge on the Ebro river and the view of the towers on the south side form Pillar Square.
