[Ligne directrice - Note] Note du photographe
Everybody knows the Alhambra fortress in Granada. This is one of those famous monuments that really do not need any special introduction. In spite of the long neglect, wilful vandalism and sometimes ill-judged restoration which the Alhambra has endured, it remains the most perfect example of Moorish art in its final European development, freed from the direct Byzantine influences which can be traced in the Mezquita cathedral of Córdoba, more elaborate and fantastic than the Giralda at Seville. The palace is unsurpassed for the exquisite detail of its marble pillars and arches, its fretted ceilings and the veil-like transparency of its filigree work in stucco. Sun and wind are freely admitted, and the whole effect is one of the most airy lightness and grace.

Consequently, Alhambra is one of those monuments that are represented on TE most extensively, so I was hesitating for a very long time whether to upload this picture. Still I must say I like it, because of the play of light, and also because it shows our collegue photographer at work, conviniently using the shadow in this marvellous pavillion to replace her film or batteries.

Scanned from printed photo, converted to BW. Unfortunately, the original was tilted, so the cut at the top was a neccessary sacrifice that I had to make while correcting this tilt.

Hi Alexander.

The only thing I dislike is the overexposition on the bottom of the picture.
A really pity.

Anyway, if we forget this little thing (from my POV of course), I like the picture. Excellent simetry.

Dag Alexander,

Indeed a pity for the top of building, but the decoration are not broke, very nice composition and excellent addition the lady between the columns, excellent for scanning picture.

Best regards,
John

I like your composition here Alexander, and I don't think the crop at the top spoils it too much.
Although it has resulted in some blown-out highlights, I like the high contrast black and white conversion, and it has picked ou the detail in the stonework nicely.
I'm a bit undecided as to whether the lonely photographer really adds anything to your image or not. I think I'd have to see two versions before I could make up my mind.
Good work.

Fantastic combination of light ad shadow, black and white. I know the place and I guess that it was not easy but the result is appealing.

Hi Alexander!
Superb and spectacular architecture photo, again! Very nice and artistic serie! Excellent composition, good choice the B&W!
Splendid shot!
Thank you, nice days
George

You captured wonderful detail in the decoration, especially in the shaded part. I like your chosen POV from the corner. The light was certainly very strong, which gave you the strong contast suited to B&W.
Kath

Hi Alexander
I see that you are having a bit of a black and white phase! It actually works well here since there is a good play on light and shadows. Your image is quite graphical and I like the candid capture of the woman. A well composed and successful shot.
Best wishes
Mark

Hi Alex,

I like the composition a lot. I think the light was very high here, it sort of floods the image a bit for me. Thats maybe the only drawback here. I like, as I said, how you framed this scene and the architectural details.

Bonjour Alexander,
Belle récupération de l'image. Ce monument est toujours très intéressant à regarder quand bien même il soit paru sur TE plusieurs fois.
Le noir et blanc donne un aspect très original.
Merci, Alexander, pour ce partage très agréable.
Amitiés.
Philippe

Hi Alexander,
A successful scan and tilt correction to display this scene very well. The lighting is superb, the lady photographer enhances, and the lines and graphism are great. You did a superb job of rehabilitating your old photograph.
John

Hi Alex, great b&w composition which has good detail. Nice pov showing the photographer between the pillars. That been said the pillars at the bottom centre seem slightly overexposed. otherwise well done.
Lynette

Hi Alexander. Pity you had to crop the point at the top, but you can't have everything, especially when dealing with old photos, those taken when you never imagined you would be scanning them for TE in 5 years' time. It's not a bad scan, although a bit contrasty in th bottom half. The main feature to me is the pose and lighting of the photographer. You captured her in a moment that conveys a little bit of 'action' in an otherwise static graphical image. I haven't been to the Alhambra for 29 years! So, well worth uploading, I'd say! Well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Alexander, interesting to see this lonely photographer appearing in the light in the middle of those columns, BW was the good choice here I think...

This one also, wonderful detailed graphical work accompanied with beautiful architecture and play of the shadows, the lady adds a lot to this shot.
Very nice :)
