Photographer’s Note

Waiting to be renovated some time in the future by an enthusiast that has too much else to do this 70´s SAAB 95 V4 stands idle in a backyard in Sollefteå.

The SAAB 95 was the "estate" version of the 96 that was developed from the first 92 and 93 models. Still using the aerodynamic drop shape that shows so well that this were cars designed by aircraft designers. In the mid 60´s the three cylinder 2-stroke was phased out by a 4-stroke V4 from Ford.

A special transmission detail was kept that made the SAAB 96 and 95 a bit peculiar to drive - the "free wheel". When you let the accelerator up the engine will go down to idle but the car just keeps on rolling without any engine brake effect. This was once installed to save the 2-stroke from high revolutions with no fuel feed as that would damage that kind of engine as it relies on the oil mix in the fuel for lubrication of the cylinders.

Maybe this is getting close to the family rules as the earlier mentioned enthusiast is my wife´s brother.
